Palm Springs weather is best in the winter. Summers can be extraordinarily hot, temperatures may easily climb above 100ºF/38ºC from mid-April through mid-October. As a green oasis, its easy to forget that La Quinta is a desert resort. High season for the resort is during our winter months from November to March when weather is cooler. During the summer months it is hot in the desert but staying at La Quinta becomes incredibly good value and there are plenty of pools to cool down in after a day exploring. Guests visiting Palm Springs on a road-trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles welcome a stop at beautiful La Quinta, and it makes the perfect base for exploring Joshua Tree National Park and for geological jeep-tours of the San Andreas Fault.

Description

La Quinta is an elegant desert retreat nestled in the Santa Rosa Mountains. Private casitas and forty-one swimming pools offer pure relaxation but for those in search of activity can play golf, hike or take a jeep tour of Joshua Tree National Park.

This lush green oasis is the desert's oldest resort and is now a member of the Waldorf-Astoria Collection. Framed by the Santa Rosa Mountains, decades of Hollywood stars have stayed at La Quinta since it opened as a Hollywood playground in 1926. Over the years they have enjoyed the privacy of the adobe casitas and beautiful gardens. Broad expanses of lawns separate the original one-story casitas, and other rooms, decorated in early-California style are styled with dark woods and Spanish tiles, are newer two-story units. Fireplaces, stocked refrigerators, and fruit-laden orange trees contribute to a luxurious ambience.

A premium is placed on privacy, which accounts for La Quinta's continuing popularity with Hollywood celebrities. The tennis stadium holds 23 courts and there are an astonishing 41 pools on-property. With multiple dining options, from Morgan's fine dining to the adobe Mexican grill serving up over 100 tequilas. Live entertainment on the weekends and a good sized spa there’s no reason to get in your car until it’s time to go home.

Although this is a large resort, dont let this put you off, with the numerous pools there is always one close by and with the resort being spread over 45 acres it doesnt ever feel too busy or overwhelming. This is a great family option in Palm Springs.

Arriving into La Quinta was a little like suddenly being transported back across the Atlantic and into one of the white washed villages you find perching on the side of a hill in Southern Spain. With pretty gardens, adorned with heavily laden orange trees, terracotta roofed buildings peaking out above them, this really is a little slice of Spain. La Quinta seems to sprawl, on a huge plot it has no less than 43 swimming pools, each one surrounded by guest rooms and suites ensuring that no one is ever too far away from a refreshing dip, vital during the hot desert summer months. Some of the pools are quiet, some more family orientated but the beauty is that if one is a little too quiet or a little too loud, you're never more than a short stroll from another one. I can see why guests come to La Quinta and never leave during their stay, everything is here. Children can grab bikes and head off on adventures safely within the resort confines, parents can relax by the pool or enjoying a game of tennis (there is great tennis history here) and the hotel has some very good exclusive rights to local championship golf courses as well.

Basically the feel here is laid back and vacation style. A bit of down time in a beautiful location where everything is on hand. It did remind me a little of Spanish vacation villages from when I was younger, where you have everything close by and there's never any need to go very far. As a relaxed stop at the end of a trip or even in the middle to recharge the batteries, I think it works beautifully. It's not over sophisticated, just relaxed and laid back but with the good service you would expect.
