Carmel is an all-year destination if you like fine dining and shopping. For nature lovers, the coast is wonderfully wild in winter and you can go whale-watching and birding; spring sees wonderful flower displays, and there are a host of watersports to be tried at the beach in the summer; autumn brings harvest bounty and temperatures are usually still balmy. The fog is present mostly in May and June, but usually burns off by lunchtime.

Set on a residential street in the heart of the picture perfect town of Carmel, Carmel Cottage Inn offers guests independent stays in beautifully appointed cottages just steps from fabulous shopping, fine dining and a stunning white sandy surf beach.
Carmel first made it on to the map when Clint Eastwood became mayor back in the 80s and has pretty much stayed there ever since (as has he, he still lives in the town). With its picturesque setting on leafy tree lined streets lined with gorgeous houses, a selection of superb restaurants and a decadent string of shops from designer boutiques through to local artisans galleries, Carmel really is a very desirable and liveable town. Add to this a stunning long white sandy beach at the bottom of the hill, perfect for long strolls, the occasional surf and the ever present sunset barbecues and you really do have an idyllic spot.
Carmel Cottage Inn makes that idyllic living come to our guests. Be part of everyday life here by living for a few days in one of the beautiful cottages nestled into a residential street just one block from the beach. The cottages have been lovingly restored by their owner and offer self catering at its finest with the most luxurious and comfortable of accommodations ranging from a cosy cottage for two through to a beautiful historic house full of nooks and crannies perfect for family groups.
All the shopping and restaurants of Carmel are within a 5-minute walk and the beach is even closer. Within just a few minutes drive you will find stunning 19 mile drive that snakes a scenic route around the coastline to Monterey Bay, home to the famous and unmissable Monterey Aquarium and the departure point for trips out in to the bay in search of whales who often frequent the area. Head inland for great hiking and the occasional vineyard visit or head down to Big Sur on scenic Highway 1 or up to the surf beaches of Santa Cruz, both just over an hour away
The inn offers five beautiful cottages all set within the pretty gardens and pathways. All offer beautifully appointed accommodations.
Sky Way is the smallest cottage. It has a cosy lounge and separate double bedroom and a small bathroom. It has a lovely deck to sit out on. Accommodating 2 guests
Moon Gate is a lovely romantic cottage. It offers a comfortable lounge with brick built gas fireplace and sleeper sofa and a well equipped kitchen with dining table. Separate King bedroom and private bathroom. Accommodating up to 4 guests
Home Port is similar to Moon Gate with a pretty garden as well. It also offers a kitchen and sleeper sofa in the lounge. Accommodating up to 4 guests
Tradewinds is a larger cottage and so ideal for families. Downstairs it offers a cosy lounge with brick built gas fireplace, kitchen with dining table and one King bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs there are two twin beds on the mezzanine and then a lead through to a double bedroom and additional bathroom
Log Haven is the largest of all cottages and very special. It is a combination of the original log cabin building dating back from the early 1900's and a sympathetic extension to make it in to a beautiful family cottage. It features a large lounge with sleeper sofa and separate dining room as well as large kitchen. There is one King bedroom downstairs with private bathroom. Up the original narrow log stairs is an additional den with sleeper sofa, two further bedrooms and large bathroom.
|Tradewinds 3-Bedroom Cottage||
Tradewinds, our second largest cottage, has two places to relax outside, a patio and a balcony. The main floor has a king bedroom, a full bath, an inviting living room with a sofa/sleeper and gas fireplace, and a modern/retro kitchen. The upstairs of this cottage has a queen bedroom, a full bath and a loft with two twin beds. Internet access available.
|Log Haven - 4 Bedroom Cottage||
Log Haven, our largest cottage, is one of the oldest buildings in Carmel. You enter the log cabin from a large stone patio. The first floor has a king and a queen bedroom, a full bath and a powder room, a living room complete with a sofa/sleeper and an inviting gas fireplace, a formal dining room and a fun retro-modern kitchen. The upstairs of this charming log cabin has a bedroom with a king sized bed and a twin, a full bath, and a second living room with a sofa sleeper. Internet access available.
Children are very welcome at the inn. There are no particular facilities for them however.
There are no facilities at the cottages, this is very much an independent stay. Periodic midstay housekeeping is available for stays of 3 nights or longer.
Monterey Aquarium - The US #1
Monterey's aquarium is located on the former site of a sardine cannery; much more than a collection of glass tanks, 200 gallons of seawater provide homes to sea life from kid-tolerant starfish to friendly penguins, sea turtles and hammerhead sharks.
Scenic 17-Mile Drive by Pedal-Power
The Monterey Peninsula Recreation Trail follows the shoreline above Cannery Row and around the marina. Cycle all the way to the Del Monte Forest and on the bike lane around the 17-mile drive, stop for a picnic or lunch in charming Carmel-by-the-Sea!
