With a history spanning over fifty years in Aspen, the Limelight has been recently redeveloped and offers contemporary services with old fashioned hospitality. Located in the heart of town, it's close to the Silver Queen Gondola for easy access onto Aspen Mountain.
The easy-going sociable atmosphere makes it a perfect choice for friends and family groups, as does the wide range of rooms and suites. Suites have full kitchens, fireplaces and outdoor terraces .
A full continental breakfast of freshly-baked goodies, house-made granola, yogurt and fruit is included, whilst in the evening, enjoy some light Italian fare in the Limelight Lounge. The Limelight's pizza is legendary but to truly melt your taste buds, an order of braised short ribs is mandatory. The lounge is the heart of the hotel's vibrant après-ski culture and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes it a perfect spot in which to sink into a sofa by the fire and enjoy the live music featured five nights a week. Alternatively, guests can relax on one of two rooftop terraces where the views are breathtaking.
Facilities include an outdoor pool and two hot tubs, as well as a complimentary shuttle bus to Aspen airport, around town and to Snowmass, and the use of iPads in the Limelight Lounge.
The Limelight Hotel has a partnership with the Ski & Snowboard Schools of Aspen/Snowmass, where guests are offered a complimentary on-mountain guide service. This is a fabulous opportunity to get great tips on where to ski in Aspen and Snowmass, and make the most of your time on the slopes. The first tracks every Friday allows hotel guests exclusive access to Aspen Mountain before the opening of the gondola to the general public. If you love skiing in virgin powder, this is not to be missed.
The Limelight has 126 good sized rooms, ranging from deluxe rooms featuring a flatscreen TV, iPod docking station, coffee maker, refrigerator, minibar and microwave to luxurious one and two bedroom apartments with full kitchens, fireplaces and balconies.
The hotel is child-friendly but there are no specific children's facilities. There are occasional movie nights with popcorn and beanbags.
Children of 5 years and over can be picked up by Max the Moose bus (a big purple bus with moose head) and taken to ski school (they have to be checked in the first day by parents).
Facilities include a heated outdoor pool and hot tubs and fully equipped fitness room. The hotel offers a shuttle to Aspen town center, Aspen airport and the different ski areas to maximize your Aspen experience.
The hotel has five slots booked on Fridays for 'First Tracks' - Aspen's early lifts up the mountain with breakfast at the Sundeck Mountain Restaurant on Aspen mountain. They can also arrange 'Inside Tracks' - free guiding with ski instructors on Tuesdays and Fridays.
They also offer Beer Tasting twice per month which must be reserved in advance, and is accompanied by a three course meal on the chef’s table.
Skiers in Aspen are spoiled for choice across the four main ski areas, and resort activities include skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, dog sledding, and powder tours – off piste powder guiding and snowmobiling. Guests at The Limelight also have exclusive access to snowcat experiences and skiing with the Ski Patrol Sweep at the end of the day.

Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, skiers can have the chance to have the mountain almost to themselves at the end of the day as they join the Aspen Mountain Ski Patrol do their final sweep of the pistes. You’ll join the pros to get a behind-the-scenes look at how they put the mountain to bed at the end of each day. This exclusive opportunity is open to intermediate and advanced skiers and riders who are guests of The Little Nell and The Limelight Hotel.

From just $100 for two people, you can have the chance to help prepare the slopes for the earlybirds. Your snowcat operator will show you how to drive your Prinoth Bison 350 before you set to work creating perfect corduroy slopes. There is limited availability for this experience, and it only operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is exclusively for guests at The Little Nell and The Limelight Hotel.
First Tracks allows guests of the Limelight Hotel exclusive access to Aspen Mountain before the opening of the gondola to the general public, so you can enjoy skiing/riding untouched powder with a small number of other guests. This experience takes place every Friday morning, and guests must be 18 or older and an intermediate skier/rider or above.
Each Friday guests can join the General Manager on The Little Nell Powder Cat, for an Aspen Mountain Powder Tour. The day includes an average number of 10-15 completely untracked powder runs on the backside of Aspen Mountain, followed by an intimate late lunch at the Powder Tours cabin. The gourmet lunch will be perfectly paired with wines from around the world, specifically bottled for element 47. The Powder Tours terrain is blue and guests should be strong intermediate to advanced skiers/snowboarders in order to tackle and enjoy the terrain.
Inside Tracks offers an exclusive opportunity to get the insider’s scoop of Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Snowmass while meeting other guests and skiing/riding with Aspen’s top professionals. This is not a lesson, but the pros will offer tips and assistance to ensure that guests have an exceptional time. Run every Monday and Thursday, guests enjoy a full day on the mountain. Participants must be 18 or older and an intermediate skier/rider or above.

When to go
The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.
