The only way to get to this completely remote camp is to fly into the airstrip close by before jumping in a 4x4 vehicle for a scenic drive across the Hartmann Valley. The camp itself is located at the northern end of the Hartmann Valley on the lush banks of the Kunene River. Perched atop of large boulders, the camp has an unbeatable location.
The simple design follows that of the other Skeleton Coast Safaris camps, to provide a comfortable place to stay without compromising on the wonderful surrounds. Rooms are domed tents which have been covered and surrounded by a reed wall and roof to protect them from the sun and weather damage. The dining area has been constructed from local materials such as stone, wood and reed and is covered with the front open so as not to obscure views of the river and a bush bar provides a social space to relax during evenings.
The Kunene River area is great for exploring either on river or on land. With animals such as lizards, crocodiles and birds to be seen, as well as some incredible scenery this is usually a great way to round off a trip. This area is perhaps best known for being the home of the semi-nomadic Himba community and guests are welcome to visit to learn about their way of life, traditions and culture.
Simple dome tents are covered with a reed roof and surrounded by reed walls. Complete with twin beds, neutral bed linen and a chemical toilet, the rooms also have a bedside table, a battery powered lamp, bottled water and tissues. The tents also have adjacent bucket showers with shampoo and shower gel, and towels. A small seating area in front of the tent has a stone table and chairs in front of some great views. The camp also has two flush toilets with hand basins for communal use.
