Average time to visit
The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.

Serian Camp is a traditional tented bush camp with five tents in the Mara North conservancy just outside the Maasai Mara Reserve. The camp enjoys beautiful, expansive views of the Mara river and the Olololo escarpment.
Serian Camp is a traditional bush camp with a very home away from home feel with its expansive mess deck overlooking the Mara River. In the main area there is a cosy indoor fireplace, and lots of chairs to curl up in and the outdoors deck area is the perfect spot for wining and dining whilst enjoying the views. The emphasis is on the traditional, natural wildlife experience and it epitomises the off-the-beaten-track safari. The guiding here is absolutely phenomenal and really embodies the African spirit. A huge bonus of the Serian camps is that they all include private vehicles in the cost of the accommodation so your safari experience can be as gentle or intense as you wish with wake-up calls whenever suits you. The area opposite the camp boasts 4,000 acres of walking concession that is exclusively for the use of Serian guests. The Mara is famous for the annual wildebeest migration but there is also so much else to do here and other activities on offer consist of day and night game drives, guided bush walks, bush breakfasts, picnics and sundowners, and cultural visists.
Unique in their own way, each of the huge five tented rooms is furnished with large double beds flanked by bedside tables and writing desks. The adjoining “bush bathrooms” include a shower, twin basins, large bush bathtub overlooking the river and flush loo. One of these is a family tent with two bedrooms.
For the adventurous there is an incredible Tree House set high up and overlooking the bush to one side and river to the other. Spending a night here is a magical and unforgettable experience and the state of the art night vision cameras will allow you to continue you game viewing well after dark before you fall asleep under a blanket of stars.
Five private tented rooms including one family suite are available at Serian Camp. Each tent is unique in its own way, furnished with large double beds, flanked by bedside tables and writing desks. The adjoining "bush bathrooms" include a shower, twin basins, large bush bathtub and flush toilet. Hanging swathes of cotton and canvas walls provide complete privacy.
Serian Camp welcomes children although there are no specific facilities and the camp is not suited to very young children. Food can be tailored to suit children and earlier meal times can be arranged where necessary. Babysitting can also be organised for those that require it.
Activities from Serian include wildlife viewing and bird watching which are done by specially adapted vehicle day or night, or on foot during the day. With both you are in the company of experienced guides who can share with you, a world that only they know. Hot air balloon safaris can also be arranged on request. Bush breakfasts, sundowners and picnics are also part of the day and cultural visits are also available.

Sleep in Serian's Nest
Set high in an Elephant Pepper tree, in the heart of Serian's private walking area, and enjoying views down to the Mara River is "The Nest". There's plenty of space for the whole family to siesta during the day or spend a memorable night out in the bush.
The Great Migration
The Maasai Mara is famous for being home to one of nature’s most spectacular events: the Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest cross from Tanzania’s Serengeti to Kenya’s Mara in search of better grazing.
Walking in the Maasai Mara
Exploring the African bush from outside a safari vehicle is a wonderful experience. Get away from the noise of the 4x4 and, accompanied by your professional safari guide, begin to pick up on the smaller details of the African bush.
