Jigokudani Monkey Park and Obuse Township

Yudanaka, Japan

Visit Jigokudani Monkey Park and nearby Obuse. Jigokudani Monkey Park sits at the foot of the Shiga Highlands and local Japanese macaques are often seen here bathing in the natural hot springs. Afterwards visit Obuse, home to sake warehouses and galleries

With your Japanese driver you will visit Jigokudani Monkey Park, an area inhabited by lots of Japanese macaques, more widely known as 'Snow Monkeys' as during the winter months they are often found bathing in hot springs, surrounded by snow. The macaques live in large social groups and can also be found near the hot springs at other times of year. Due to how unique the hot springs and Japanese macaques are, this area can become busy in high season however we feel as though it's a great thing to do as a family.

Afterwards, visit Obuse. Obuse is a wonderful town that is full of sake breweries, galleries and temples. It is mostly famed for Hokusai Museum, displaying works by block print artist, Katsushika Hokusai. He is one of Japan's most famous and widely regarded painters and printmaker; his most notable work is The Great Wave, recognised across the world. Hokusai spent most of his later life in Obuse.

Afterwards your driver will take you back to your ryokan.
