The Diamond Circle
Your first stop on the Diamond Circle will be Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, where you'll watch the meltwater from the Vatnajokull ice cap thundering over the 45m high cliffs. Continue on along Jokulsargljufur Canyon to Hafragillsfoss waterfall, stopping to enjoy the views of the Hljodaklettar basalt columns.
Next, you'll reach the spectacular Asbyrgi Canyon, a horseshoe-shaped canyon that, according to Icelandic legend, was created by Odin's eight-footed horse. Take a walk through the canyon and admire the verdant landscapes before heading towards north and taking in the incredible coastal scenery. During summer months, you'll also have the opportunity to stop at one of the region's puffin nesting sites and spot these beautiful birds.
