This is the only place on the planet where you can step inside a volcano’s magma chamber, not just peer into it. Your journey begins with a guided hike across a dramatic expanse of moss-covered lava field raw, silent, and still bearing the scars of the last eruption over 4,000 years ago.
Reaching the crater’s rim, you will clip into a harness and descend slowly 120 metres into the Earth via a specially engineered open lift. It’s a descent into geological time a cathedral of stone sculpted by fire, vast and unexpectedly beautiful, its mineral-streaked walls glowing in shades of copper, violet and obsidian. Once inside, there’s space to wander and marvel.
