Snorkel between two continents in water so clear you can see 100 metres. Hike across a glacier tongue riddled with ancient crevasses. Descend 120 metres into the magma chamber of a dormant volcano. Iceland in summer is a land that barely gets dark and never runs out of ways to leave you speechless. It starts in Reykjavik with a private food tour through Viking-modern streets and a hands-on Nordic cooking class where a three-course meal of Icelandic fish and free-range lamb comes together around a farmhouse table.
From Reykjavik, the landscape opens up fast. Strokkur geyser erupts every few minutes, Gullfoss waterfall thunders 32 metres into the canyon, and then you are in the water yourself, floating through the Silfra fissure between two tectonic plates with visibility that stretches to 100 metres. Lunch is surrounded by tomato plants inside a geothermal greenhouse powered by volcanic heat. The next day, a super jeep crosses icy rivers and craggy riverbeds into Thórsmork valley, flanked by three glaciers, where a luxury wilderness barbecue is waiting.
The south coast unfolds in black sand and ice. Reynisfjara’s jet-black beach, troll-legend sea stacks, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, then crampons on for a private glacier hike across Sólheimajökull. A private Zodiac takes you through floating icebergs on Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon with champagne and a stop at a secret island. Icelandic horses carry you to a hidden 30-metre waterfall beneath Eyjafjallajökull, and the journey closes at the Blue Lagoon Retreat built into an 800-year-old lava flow, where evenings are spent soaking in milky teal waters as steam rises into the endless summer twilight.

Nordic climate - May, June and July are the driest months of the year. Mid-June to August is high season, but most highland tours don’t operate until July because of snow. At other times, many tourist facilities outside Reykjavík are closed. From September through March, the night is dark enough to see the Aurora Borealis.
