Day Trip to Nanjing Tulou
Xiamen, Hunan, Fujian and Guangzhou, China
Uncover the architectural wonder of the Tulou in a visit to the different villages of Fujian, a Unesco World Heritage site. Head to Shuyang Town, Yuchanglou and Taxia village today. Time permitting visit Gaotou and Chengqilou.
Nanjing Tulou is among the most easily accessed from Xiamen, and is thus best recommended for those who have limited time.
Take a 2 hour 30 minutes drive to Shuyang Town in Nanjing and visit the Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster, Yuchanglou as well as Taxia village. The Tulou are Hakka Earth Houses that were built in a circular, inward facing design for defensive purposes against any potential intruders between the 15th and 20th centuries.
Several families live in one complex that was meant to promote social cohesiveness and communal living. Gain interesting insights from this Unesco World Heritage site of the daily lives of the locals that live in this community today.
If time permits, visit Gaotou Village and Chengqilou of Yongding before returning to Xiamen.
