Paro Dzong & National Museum
The Paro Dzong, or Rinpung Dzong as it is otherwise called, looms above the town of Paro. On the hill above the Dzong in the former watchtower you can visit the National Museum.
The Rinpung Dzong dates from the 17th century when Ngawang Namgyal built the existing Dzong where an earlier 15th century temple stood. The National Museum is located above the main Dzong and was founded in 1968 and houses some superb Bhutanese artwork including bronze statues and traditional thangka Buddhist paintings.
