White-water rafting on the Zambezi

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Experience the thrill of white-water rafting on the Zambezi River on the rapids below Victoria Falls. This stretch of water is home to the largest number of high volume Grade 5 rapids on the planet. An adrenaline fuelled experience in a dramatic setting.

The white-water rafting on the Zambezi is regarded by many as the best in the world. The 25km section below the falls, the Batoka Gorge, is home to some of the most challenging stretches of white-water on the planet.

Begin a day of rafting from the base of the impressive wall of falling water. This is an action packed day over rapids with fearsome names such as: The Devils Toilet Bowl, The Washing Machine and Oblivion!

The Zambezi River has a fearsome reputation, which in most cases is unfounded. It is possible to run this river without flipping a raft, but it is a powerful large volume river that can present some challenging and fun white-water.

White-water rafting operates seasonally. During the flood of April and May there is no rafting. During the high water season of approximately January to March and June to August, rafting starts from rapid 11. There are short runs further down river in March and June. From August to December, low-water, the rafting begins at the foot of the falls itself.

There is quite a hike from the base of the gorge at the end of the day, followed by a transfer back to town.
