Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

It is very difficult to predict the weather in the United Kingdom & Ireland - in the summer from May to late September is generally seen as the most pleasant time to visit. Rainfall is difficult to predict - but the UK & Ireland does not receive as much as many are led to believe! In the winters, temperatures do fall, but there is nothing better than finding a remote pub with a roaring fire to sit beside after a long walk in the country.

This multi-country itinerary is a perfect way to explore both Dublin and Edinburgh, as well as the glorious countryside of Scotland and Ireland. With your private guide, experience the local ways of life and admire the breathtaking scenery.

  1. Days 1-3: Edinburgh

Begin your adventure in Edinburgh, where you’ll be met on arrival at the airport and privately transferred to your central hotel. A short distance from your hotel, you’ll be able to explore Edinburgh Castle and the historic castle climb Arthur’s Seat for a view that you’ll remember forever.

Accommodation: The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-6: West coast Scotland

After an inspiring couple of days in the capital, your private guide will whisk you away to the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Eriska hotel, located on a private island at the mouth of Loch Linnhe. Along the way your guide will show you Stirling castle, which has played host to the coronation of many of Scotland’s former Kings and Queens. You’ll also pass by the magnificent Trossachs, an area of spectacular scenery and the perfect backdrop to enjoy a pit stop with some inviting refreshments.

With just 25 rooms, the Isle of Eriska is a small hotel with an impressive array of facilities including a spa and golf course as well as 300 acres of land to explore. During your stay have a go at archery, sailing or mountain biking and be sure to work up an appetite to enjoy the hotels renowned fine-dining restaurant. As with all of our trips, we can include excursions most suited to you. Keen ramblers may wish to pay a visit to Glencoe, Scotland's most famous glen, with a chance to spot golden eagles who frequent the area. If you're visiting between April and July we can arrange for you to set out towards the magical island of Staffa to witness the colourful Puffins during their mating season. At the end of your time in Scotland we will take you to Glasgow airport for your flight on to Ireland.

Accommodation: Isle of Eriska Hotel (3 nights)

  3. Days 6-8: Dublin & the East of Ireland

Your introduction to Ireland begins in Dublin's fair city, where you’ll stay in a central hotel. While you're in Dublin, you'll have the services of a private guide to help you explore. Take a walk through the streets of Georgian Dublin, pay a visit to Trinity College and its dazzling illuminated ninth-century manuscript The Book of Kells or be regaled with old stories from a seannachie over dinner. Or you may choose to explore the round towers in the Wicklow Mountains or some of Europe's finest Neolithic monuments in the Boyne Valley. Whatever you choose, you'll always find a welcome pint of Guinness and a fine craic waiting for you back in Dublin.

    Accommodation: The Merrion (2 nights)

  4. Days 8-11: Connemara

Leaving the city behind, you'll travel in considerable comfort with your private driver-guide across country to the stunning West Coast of Ireland, where we've suggested an elegant country house hotel, Ballynahinch Castle. Set within a large estate, Ballynahinch is surrounded by spectacular scenery with lakes and mountains as your backdrop. The hotel is a perfect base to try your hand at some outdoor recreational activities such as fly-fishing, sailing or horseback riding. Set out with your private guide to explore the ring of Connemara, featuring isolated crofts and abbeys or journey to the Aran islands, steeped in Irish tradition and abundant in Celtic monuments.

    Accommodation: Ballynahinch Castle (3 nights)
