Visit Castle Stalker
Castle Stalker, with its bewitching island setting against a dramatic mountain backdrop, has made it an icon of the Scottish Highlands. It is one of the best-preserved medieval tower-houses in western Scotland and a wonderful subject for photographers.
Located 25 miles north of Oban on the west coast of Scotland, Castle Stalker is a romantic's dream castle. Surrounded by water, the castle is believed originally to have been the site of a Fortalice (a small fortified building) belonging to the MacDougalls when they were Lords of Lorn, and built around 1320. The castle is privately owned, but is open on selected dates from April to September, and is reached by a short boat trip from the mainland. Monty Python fans may recognise it, as it was used in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
