Working alongside the reserve’s ecological team and specialist wildlife veterinarians, like Dr Will Fowlds, you will have the unique opportunity to witness first-hand the vital work being undertaken to protect both white and black rhino populations.
Depending on the reserve’s conservation requirements at the time, you may observe procedures such as DNA sampling, ear-notching young rhinos for identification, or the fitting of innovative solar-powered tracking collars that provide valuable data on movement, behaviour and wellbeing. These carefully managed interventions play a critical role in the long-term protection of this endangered species.
Far more than a safari activity, this is an extraordinary opportunity to engage with conservation at the frontline, gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and successes involved in safeguarding one of Africa’s most iconic animals. Meaningful, educational and profoundly moving, it offers a lasting connection to the wildlife and landscapes of the Eastern Cape.
