Samara Private Game Reserve is a wonderful place to experience the dramatic rolling landscapes of the Karoo with malaria-free game viewing. The Karoo Lodge is a sympathetically refurbished farmhouse and has ten beautiful suites.
The Karoo Lodge is a luxurious colonial style homestead, providing a perfect family bush experience. Stretching from the dramatic mountains of the Karoo to the magnificent plains of Camdeboo, Samara encompasses 28,000 hectares of land, and offers a magnificent game experience in an East African style.
The Karoo Lodge at Samara has ten suites. Three of these are luxury lodge suites (within the main lodge) that open out onto the spacious covered patio surrounding the home, with views of the amphitheatre of mountains and the other seven rooms are Karoo suites (individual suites outside the main lodge) all with private patios.
There are also indoor and outdoor dining areas, lounge areas, a bar area, a swimming pool and a Karoo kitchen. At the end of a day exploring the game reserve indulge in a relaxing massage in the comfort of your own room by the lodge's therapist or at the Samara spa.
The private Karoo bushveld offers breathtaking and far reaching views, four biomes, dramatic mountains, complex and diverse eco-systems and 60 mammal species including Cape Mountain zebra, elephant, giraffe, rhino, buffalo, antelope, and some incredible up close encounters with aardvark and cheetah.
Samara Karoo Lodge offers three luxury lodge suites and seven Karoo suites. The Karoo suites are found in the main homestead building, where as the luxury lodges are in the gardens. The bedrooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable.
Children are very welcome at Samara and there is a dedicated children's programme that runs daily. Only children 8 years and over are allowed on scheduled game drives. All children will have the opportunity to experience a shortened, kiddies only Bumble game drive.
Facilities at the lodge include a swimming pool, wellness centre and boma.
Game drives are complimentary at the lodge but spa treatments are charged on an additional basis. Other activities include trekking through the bush, birding safaris and exploring the Khoisan paintings of the ancient San people or hunter gathers that walked the Samara plains thousands of years ago.
Facilities at the lodge include a welcoming swimming pool, a revitalising wellness centre and boma.
Camilla Smith (Staff)
A traditional homestead turned into a gorgeous colonial safari lodge. It is the setting of Samara, the remoteness and the breathtaking scenery that really make this property so special. The huge expansive landscapes will completely blow you away! Wonderful picnics are positioned right on the top of the ridges with awe-inspiring views beyond. You really feel like you have escaped from everything and will not see another property in sight! You do not head to Samara for a big game experience, but you will see plenty of plains game and learn about the smaller animals and birds. We did actually see an Arrdvak, so you do see things you never would in other places! The Samara reserve is a conservational success and is a fascinating story to hear all about.
The lodge itself is beautifully designed to make it feel luxurious but comfortable with squashy sofas and colourful picture books. The staff are hugely welcoming and you feel like you are welcomed in as part of the family into a home.
