Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The best time to visit Namibia is between May and September, when it's cool and dry. Summer (November to March) is hot with heavy rains that sometimes make the gravel roads to the Namib completely impassable.
December and January see the main school holidays and the hottest temperatures: much of the populace heads to the coast, so if you visit during this time you may find some shops and restaurants closed.
Insider's View
To start planning your holiday to Okonjima Bush Suite
Description
Okonjima Bush Suite is a two bedroom private villa on the Okonjima reserve, offering families and small groups, the perfect opportunity to get close to Namibia's big cats either on foot or by vehicle with a private guide.
The private two bedroom Bush Suite is a luxurious private villa under thatch comprising two large ensuite bedrooms each with two queen beds or a super king as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The focal point of the villa is the large sunken living area with a giant fire place lit during the cooler winter months. Meals are served outside under the natural shade on the private deck beside the open wood burning fireplace or inside around a dark oak dinning table. The large deck has its own private swimming pool with sun loungers, the perfect place to spend an afternoon and watch the wildlife at the waterhole. The Bush Suite comes with its own private vehicle, guide and chef, so guests have total flexibility as to how they spend the day.
Okonjima is home to the AfriCat Foundation, which works with local farmers to conserve Namibia’s leopard population. All guests will have the unique opportunity to watch the AfriCat Foundation researchers at work, and to participate in radio-tracking on foot. Alternatively, watch leopards from the safety of a hide or a safari vehicle, and track them using signals from their radio collars.
Accommodation
The Bush Suite is a short distance from the Bush Camp and is self contained. With two separate en-suite bedrooms the Bush Suite is perfect for a small group or family.
Childcare
Children of all ages are welcomed at the Bush Suite; it should be noted that no ‘child-care service’ is available. Due to the nature of the activities, child participation is restricted, depending on age so guests should always check before booking children.
Facilities
There is a swimming pool to enjoy between safaris, plus the renowned AfriCat Research Centre.
Activities
Activities from Okonjima revolve around game viewing either on foot or by vehicle. Leopard radio tracking on foot and by vehicle is a popular activity to partake in during your stay. There is a Bushman Trail and plenty of birding with expert guides. Children are welcome to join in activities but age restrictions do apply. Aged 6 yearrs and up, children can enjoy leopard tracking from vehicle.
Reviews

Okonjima Bush camp is the perfect blend of conservation and safari in one. Our guide was a knowledgeable and passionate advocate for the unique conservation work that Africat do here.
We spent a day tracking the cheetah on foot and also found three leopard in the game rich reserve. The accommodation at the luxury Bush camp is lovely with huge spacious rooms and a small adjoining rondavell that is perfect for relaxing with a good book.

Nestled among these outcrops, in the Omboroko Mountains, lies Okonjima.
