The day will start with a visit to the office of Yangon’s Heritage Trust where you will meet your expert guide who will take you through the progress and challenges in preserving the city’s heritage buildings. From here you will set out on a walking tour of the city to discover for yourself the beauty of these buildings and the history behind them.
Depending on tastes you can opt for two different routes which your guide will discuss and help decide with you. One route will take you through the city’s most important sites including the Sule Pagoda, City Hall, the High Court and former Burma Railways Company as the other leads you in a loop and takes in the most well preserved residential area of the city and sites such as the former headquarters of the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company, Armenian Church and Gandhi Hall. After you will spend the remainder of the tour taking in some of the best known and most interesting former residences in the city including a visit to the former residence of General Aung San and former U.N. Secretary General U Thant’s house. The history of Yangon and Myanmar is fascinating and lastly there will be the chance to visit to Yangon University’s Convocation Hall to learn about the history of a violent student and monk protest.
