The Strand is a three-storey Victorian-style hotel located in the heart of downtown Yangon with a rich and colourful history dating back to 1901.

The property is charming and full of character with a friendly atmosphere. It has a rich history having opened its doors in 1901 and then remaining open through years of political unrest. The building is grand and colonial in style, with high ceilings and sweeping staircases.

The Strand has just 31 suites, all enjoying 24-hour butler service. The suites are light and airy, with high ceilings and a generous sized living area. The beds are indulgently comfortable and the bathrooms are very spacious. There are four different room categories to choose from, increasing in size, but all decked out to a similar standard and style.

The food options at The Strand range from the relaxed and informal Strand Bar and Strand Grill to the elegant Strand Cafe, with its marble floors and fine cuisine. The hotel spa is open seven days a week, providing wonderful massage treatments. Advanced booking is necessary as there is only one treatment room.

The hotel has an intimate feel to it, while retaining its high level of luxury and service. The location in the heart of Yangon is ideal and you can easily wander out from there to a number of the city's main attractions.

The Strand has a fantastic location in Downtown Yangon but is sadly lacking character for such an iconic colonial property. However, it does have a lovely lobby and is great for guests looking to explore the city on foot, and afternoon tea is not to be missed. Also, there aren't too many rooms so it does retain an intimate feel.

Located on the banks of the Yangon River, The Strand is a grand colonial hotel in a historic Victorian mansion. It was built in 1901 and so is steeped in history, remaining open through periods of conflict and political change. Its legacy has been restored in more recent years, with the property being brought into the 21st century with the white washed facade and high ceilings, a grand sweeping entrance and teak wood features, giving it a charming old-world glamour. With only 31 suites it is a more intimate option for people wanting to explore the most populated city in Myanmar.

Stepping through the front door felt like stepping back in time in a property whose atmosphere does not seem changed by the 100 plus years that it has been open. Located in the heart of Yangon, the hotel occupies a very special part of the city giving a real feel of old-world charm. It was the perfect property to start my Myanmar adventure and get me fully immersed in to romanticism of the country.
