Nestling in the hills on the edge of the medieval village of Tourrettes-sur-Loup, La Bastide des Virettes has spectacular views to the coast. Located in a quiet residential area, in established gardens and terraces, it's an ideal Riviera retreat. The bastide has been recently renovated and fitted with every modern convenience. Much loving care and attention to detail has been used, with the villa being uniquely decorated in a beautiful baroque style. Frescos and painted woodwork feature throughout, along with antiques and artwork collected from across the south of France.
Bastide des Virettes is fully south facing with the gardens stretching out in front. All the living areas of the house are on the ground floor, with a large and comfortable open plan living and dining room, children's TV and playroom, and a double kitchen. From the house, French doors open out onto a good sized covered dining area, with views towards the sea.
Upstairs are four sumptuous bedrooms and three bathrooms. Beautifully decorated and furnished, and individual in style, they are each named after a color. The master bedroom has two sets of French doors out on to a balcony with views to the swimming pool and across to the Mediterranean. A good size dressing room is ideal for a cot. Its large, classic designed en suite marble bathroom, includes a bath and a separate shower. The "Blue Room" is another double, with an en suite shower room. Lovely painted features characterize this room, with two sets of French doors opening onto a small balcony. The "Green Room" is arranged as a twin, with views across the garden and the surrounding village, countryside and coast. This room shares a bath with an overhead shower, with the "Turquoise Room", which is at the back of the house and set up as a twin. These rooms also share a separate WC.
To one end of the garden and landscaped within the rock, is a stunning 15 meter free form pool with waterfall and Jacuzzi. There is a shallow beach style entrance to the pool, making it perfect for younger children to paddle in, whilst the middle part reaches 2m in depth. There's also a boules court for a gentle afternoon game or two. There are covered terraces at either side of the pool – one for soft seating and the other outside the house for dining al fresco.
The locals call Tourrettes-sur-Loup the "village of violets", for its cultivation of this little flower. It's a picturesque and historic village, off the beaten track and full of cafés, boutiques and patisseries along its winding cobbled streets and arched passages. It's an easy place to spend a morning, watching a game of boules in the Place de la Liberation, or visiting the market on a Wednesday - the local specialty is tarte à l'orange, which is really worth a try. The beaches of Cagnes are only 8km away, and the glamour of Cannes and Antibes, just 14km. St Paul de Vence is also close, and perfect for those wanting to explore its galleries and boutiques. The hills around Tourrettes are truly beautiful, and offer magnificent walking and cycling country.
Bastide des Virettes is a spacious villa with airy and good sized rooms (total 350m2). There is Wi-Fi and an Apple TV. It has been lovingly restored and beautifully furnished with handpicked antique Baroque style painted wooden furniture and artifacts. All four unique and individually furnished bedrooms are on the first floor. All bedrooms with the exception of the master bedroom have been named after the predominant color of the room. Each has twin/double 'link style' beds, however the rooms will automatically set up as 2 double rooms and 2 twin rooms unless otherwise advised.
All the living areas are on the ground floor and include a double reception room, separated by a double sided fireplace. One side is more formal and the other is home to the children's play area/TV room. There is a separate WC on each floor. No air-conditioning.
The master bedroom is the largest bedroom with two sets of French doors out on to a balcony complete with table and chairs overlooking the gardens and swimming pool and with sea views to the distance. This room has two 4ft beds. It has a large en suite marble bathroom, classical in style including a bath, separate shower and a good sized dressing room beyond. The dressing area would be fine for a cot.
This double bedroom is known as the blue room. It is on the opposite corner of the house to the master bedroom and is flooded with light from the two sets of French doors, one with a small balcony. The palette of pale blues and creams, makes this room feel particularly calm and relaxing. The blues follow through to the en suite marble bathroom.
This room is known as the 'Green room' and has French doors with Juliet balcony to enjoy the views across garden and surrounding houses/countryside and sea to the distance. The Green room shares a bathroom with the Turquoise room.
This room is known as the 'Turquoise room'. It is the only bedroom located at the back of house so only has views across the garden and driveway. The turquoise room is the smallest of all the bedrooms and shares a bathroom (bath with shower over) and WC adjacent with the green room.

When to go
The typical Mediterranean climate of Provence and the Cote d'Azur has long drawn visitors here. Late Spring brings warm temperatures that can reach nearly 30C by July. Sunshine is abundant, with nearly 12 hours a day in mid-summer. The mistral wind can bring a cooler wind in early Spring, but this part of the Riviera is more protected. July is the driest month, and rain showers tend to be infrequent.
