Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with year-round heat, although the southeast trade winds help it never to feel too muggy. The summer months are from December to April, when it can nevertheless be extremely humid, and the winter, such as it is, runs from May to November, and is cooler and drier.
The best months to visit Mauritius are May to early December. January and February, the peak cyclone months, are best avoided by water-sports enthusiasts and divers. Cyclones rarely hit Mauritius (although Rodrigues has suffered far more regularly than the mainland) but cyclones way out at sea can bring days of squally rain.
Coastal temperatures range between 25°C and 33°C in summer and between 18°C and 24°C in winter. On the plateau it will be some 5°C cooler. The highlands are also the wettest part of the island – it can rain here at any time of year, and even when it’s not raining the area can be cloaked in low-lying cloud. When the winds are at their strongest in July and August it can be blustery on the east coast, though the breeze brings welcome relief in summer.
Apart from the Christmas-New Year peak, Mauritius doesn’t really have high and low seasons. The situation is more dependent on outside factors (such as the French school vacations, which cause a big increase in demand and prices in August).

A stunning resort with a traditional colonial style and exceptional butler service. Set on a beautiful stretch of sandy beach with complimentary water sports and a wonderful kids club, this resort is a perfect all rounder that comes in great value for money. Being a slightly smaller resort, there are limited dining options, however the service is much more personal.

The colonial style rooms are spacious, unassuming and there's many great connecting rooms on offer for families. The food is always good and they try to use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible, make sure you head down to the Plantation restaurant which has an incredible beachfront setting and serves delicious Creole cuisine. Its easy to see why we have repeat guests going back year on year as it's such a lovely place to spend time!

Scott Dunn have been working with the Residence for years and we have many, many repeat guests here. I can see why. It's a fabulous, elegant property at a very, very good price for its offering.
The food is great, beach - fabulous, kids club - attentive, spa treatments - heavenly and the service is extremely polished.
I would recommend couples and families looking for something at a lead in price for a luxury hotel and it will not disappoint.

The colonial style runs throughout the hotel with light and spacious rooms, and white contrasting with dark wooden features and furniture. The kilometer of sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing, or for complete relaxation visit the unique underground spa. If you want to be active choose from the vast array of water sports on offer. For children the kids club has it all.

I arrived early at The Residence having flown in with Air Mauritius, and as I walked through Reception the beautiful smell of ylang ylang breezed past me. You will find this smell all around The Residence corridors - it has a very relaxing and calming effect and you just know you are on vacation.
I was greeted with a very warm welcome, the lovely porter stored our luggage for us and we were whisked off to breakfast of fresh fruit, croissants, eggs, bacon and sausages, we certainly didn't need any lunch!
Our superb Colonial Garden View Senior Suite would be perfect for a family with a little one as there is a closing door between the bedroom and the sitting room. Or interconnecting rooms can be arranged, whichever you prefer.
The Residence is a beautifully stylish and elegant hotel located on one of the best stretches of beach in Mauritius. It offers a relaxed and charming atmosphere. There are three restaurants to choose from and there are a variety of activities on offer including water sports, and off site fishing, diving, golf course and horse riding.
Every room has a butler, which is incredible; he can unpack or repack for you or run the most amazing bubble bath with rose petals and candles. He is there whenever you need him but at the same time in the background so never intrusive - trust me you are never going to want to leave! No wonder The Residence has so many return guests!
They also have a calming Sanctuary Spa where you can indulge in some luxurious treatments. The full body massage I had with Julietta was the best of my life, so I highly recommend this spa and I simply cannot wait to go back!
The Kids Club aimed for 3 to 12 year olds opens from 9am until 10pm and is directly next to the Plantation restaurant so you can finish your glass of wine or coffee if you want to take your children in after your pudding and know they are in great hands. Or they have excellent Babysitters to hand should you and your other half like some time to relax. There are 3 swimming pools all next to one another and all different depths, great for children to play in.
Do try the seafood buffet on a Saturday night at the Plantation restaurant, they have every type of seafood/shellfish you can possibly think. Should you not be so keen on fish, you are welcome to have la Carte that evening in the Dining Room restaurant. They have Mauritian Sega dancers who pop in towards the end of the night too, which is so colorful and classically performed.
The Residence is such good value for money, and they are so friendly with excellent service which makes an incredible vacation for families, couples and guest traveling on their own. Now they have the all-inclusive option too, which I highly recommend if you would like to completely relax and indulge with lunch and a few cocktails during the day without thinking about your bill on check out.
