Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with year-round warmth, although the south-east trade winds help keep things fresh. The summer months are from December to April, when it can be humid. The winter runs from May to November, and while cooler and drier, is best described as akin to a perfect English summer.

The best months to visit Mauritius are May to early December. January and February are the wettest months. Cyclones rarely hit Mauritius but cyclones way out at sea can bring days of squally rain. Coastal temperatures range between 25°C and 33°C in summer and between 18°C and 24°C in winter. On the high central plateau it will be some 5°C cooler. The highlands are also the wettest part of the island and it can rain here at any time of year. When the winds are at their strongest in July and August it can feel cooler on the east coast. These conditions make Mauritius one of the world most popular kitesurfing destinations. For calmer waters and lighter winds, head to the west coast during this period.

Casey Family - April 2019 (Guest)

Shanti Maurice is perfect for a couple with children.  The kids club was great and staff lovely. Kids wanted to go to it.

Straathof Family - May 2019 (Guest)

We've travelled extensively - one of the most friendly, authentic and attentive service ever received.  Prema is the head of daycare, shes incredibly natural with kids, our son liked her from day 1 and she instilled great trust. So authentic, friendly and fun for our 16 months old.  Did several day trips and Spa, both excellent.

Brazier Family - September 2019 (Guest)

Ana recommended Shanti Maurice and it was absolutely brilliant. Great staff, food and setting.  Ana was extremely helpful and her recommendation was basically what made the trip such a success.

Rowe Family - October 2019 (Guest)

A beautiful location, lovely spacious room and wonderful facilities.

The kids club was really incredible - Lydia (our daughter) received first rate care and had a huge smile on her face every time she arrived and every time we picked her up. The food was perfect - they provided whatever we asked for, and gave Lydia such a wonderful experience. She went swimming, painted, and played everyday. It was really wonderful for us to be able to relax and enjoy our holiday knowing she was being well looked after. The girls really were so kind, helpful and great with her. Our babysitter Sharonne was also wonderful, looking after Lydia in the evenings so that we could go out and enjoy dinner.

Heather May (Staff)

An authentically designed smaller hotel nestled on the South Coast of Mauritius, Shanti Maurice certainly offers a wonderful holiday experience for all. Let's start with the kids club! A newly opened Explorer's club, drawing Scott Dunn families back time and time for the exceptional childcare across our Mediterranean hotels, guests now have the chance to explore a destination further afield. With a huge space set in the gardens of Shanti Maurice and a wonderful team of childcare professionals, children can enjoy all kinds of activities as they make memories with their siblings or new friends!

Now for the foodies - Shanti Maurice has a number of very experiential dining options at the hotel. Each restaurant stands out for its own special reason, not just for the amazing food. Whether it be the 200+ rums carefully crafted into a cocktail by the Rum Shed's own mixologist, the beach front location of Fish Shack where you can listen to the ocean waves crashing over the rocks as you enjoy locally caught fish or simply the tranquil garden setting of La Kaze Mama as you enjoy the bold flavours of local Mauritian cuisine.

Finally, the spa - the plot originally made its mark on the island as a wellness retreat in Mauritius and this is certainly something which Shanti Maurice have continued to channel into their ethos to date. With one of the largest spas in the Indian Ocean, the spa is the perfect setting to recharge your batteries or enjoy some peace and quiet with a loved one. A truly romantic and special experience.

Hannah Fullagar (Staff)

Theres so much to love about Shanti Maurice. Its got bags of character, a truly authentic Mauritian feel, and delivers service levels worthy of luxury hotel status.
For me, the restaurants are a real highlight. Its so lovely to have such a varied range of dining experiences, from fresh fish on the beach, to steaks in the Rum Shed and a traditional Mauritian buffet in the herb gardens. Theres something so wonderful about being able to dine in these locations rather than a generic restaurant setting, and the food we tasted throughout our stay was all delicious.
I was really keen to see the Explorers club seeing as its such a new addition to the hotel. Its a fantastic space, and the children seemed to be having the time of their lives! Prema and the team were so friendly, it was clear how much the children had warmed to them, even those who were spending their first day in the club.
Overall its the personal levels of service that really made my stay memorable. Every member of staff goes out of their way to ensure each guest is happy theres a real nothings too much trouble attitude around the resort, so its no wonder every guest seemed to have a permanent smile!

Andrew Peckham (Guest)

Had the most amazing time at the Shanti Maurice, it was absolutely wonderful exactly what we needed! Its such a relaxed place and the staff were great super friendly and couldnt do enough for us. It was brilliant thank you so much for organising!

Claire Walker (Staff)

Every aspect of this hotel is great and wonderfully thought out. There is a lot of Mauritian traditions built in to create great food and a traditional experience you won't forget. The food and music at La Kaze Mama was brilliant and set the scene for a wonderful evening. A great beach and pool area with stunning views make it and do not forget to try out the Rum Shack for a great evening!

Kirsty Harper (Staff)

Shanti Maurice is a fabulous property that oozes relaxation, from its beautiful stretch of beach to the large spa this is a great getaway to have a well deserved break. Offering both villas and suites, in regards to style these didn't stand out to me but I think the overall property makes up for this along with the high standard of service and food. They have a range of different concepts for their restaurants which really mix up the dining options when staying for a longer period and a visit to the Rum Shack is a must!

Emma Mark (Staff)

Shanti Maurice offers some of the most unique and innovative dining concepts on the island ensuring that "foodies" are well looked after. The resort is also ideal for those needing some rest and relaxation as not only does Shanti have a very tranquil atmosphere, it also has an unrivalled spa with specialist treatments and a particular focus on quality yoga.

Jack Mace (Staff)

Shanti Maurice is a real jewel in the crown of the resorts in Mauritius. Hidden away amongst the dense tropical coastline all suites and villas offer a great level of privacy and their own pools which can be heated in the winter months if you find the water too refreshing. The array of dining options is outstanding and with Stars, Pebbles, Rum Shed, Fish Shack and La Kaze Maman on offer you will never be bored of the variety of cuisine available. The amazing kids club, Le Petit Dodo, is open 12 hours a day and ensures you can be as relaxed as possible safe in the knowledge that the children are enjoying their time as much as you.

Ana Albiol (Staff)

Set on a gorgeous 1km stretch of beach, Shanti Maurice has a calming effect as soon as you enter the resort. Tranquillity is the order of the day with lush vegetation and natural local stone and woods being used in the building of this idyllic retreat. With just 61 suites, the property has an incredible offering of dining options included on the half board meal plan. Ensure to ask us to pre-book in high season for La Kaze Mama for authentic Mauritian home cooked cuisine and ensure you visit the Fish Shack, under the stars and with the soundtrack of the waves in the background.

Jessica Robinson (Staff)

Shanti Maurice is quite a different style property. It is a small, boutique hotel set amongst luscious greenery with an intricate feel. It has a calm and tranquil atmosphere, the perfect place for a relaxing spa retreat, with the spa being the largest in the Indian Ocean. They offer an extensive list of spa treatments, alongside yoga, meditation and pilates.

I love the Rum Shed; you can enjoy a great range of 180 different rums, from around the world with your feet dipped in sand. The hotel also offers a variety of different dining experiences. This is not only a place for adults, with a wonderful kids club; children can enjoy the great facilities and activities on offer.

Victoria Douglas (Staff)

Personally, Shanti Maurice is my favourite property in Mauritius. The suites are great but not anything out of this world, however for me it's all about the concepts at the hotel. There is obviously a creative imagination behind the dining and experiential aspects of the hotel. I particularly loved the Rum Shed where you can try different rums from across the globe in a really unique shabby chic setting. I didn't get a chance to try it but I'd imagine that La Kaze Moma, a special dinner in the herb kitchen Mauritian style, is a really memorable experience. The spa here is divine - amazing facilities, I'd happily do a spa retreat here. I liked the fact that some of the suites and villas lead directly on the beach and the setting here is quite wild with a long stretch of beach you can potter along without a string of hotels as in other parts of the island.

I'd highly recommend this property for a honeymoon and also as an option for younger kids as the kids club is tailored towards the younger end.

Louisa Currey (Staff)

Shanti Maurice is hidden away on a private 1km stretch of beach. The reef is the closest to the shore here, meaning that the water is best for swimming and there are no motorised water sports. This keeps the hotel quiet and gives it a relaxing atmosphere. Home to the largest spa in Mauritius, Shanti Maurice is the best place for those looking for a wellness retreat. All villas have a private heated pool, individually controlled to your preference. The dining options here a really varied, with some unique experiences. Have dinner at 'Grandma's Kitchen' in the herb garden where you can try some local cuisine, alternatively for the best ocean view dine at the Fish Shack on the beach and watch the locals Sega dance. Rum lovers can feel at home at the Rum Shed where there are 180 varieties on offer!

Alice Moseley (Staff)

Shanti Maurice is home to a fantastic spa with 25 treatment rooms. Lots of unique dining spots here - from the Rum Shack which is home to 180 different rums to the Fish Shack by the waters edge where they celebrate what the fishermen have caught that day. For a true Mauritian experience enjoy local dishes in the vegetable garden where the food is prepared and cooked by a Mauritian grandmother. Bear in mind that the southern location of the hotel means the reef is close to the shore so no water sports are on offer.

Sarah Tichacek (Staff)

I loved the villas at Shanti Maurice. They are a little smaller inside then other similar properties, but this was more than made up for by the really good size of the swimming pools. It is on a really quiet stretch of beach, with no immediate neighbours. The spa is one of the largest in the Indian Ocean, and the children's club has really fantastic facilities.

Mr Philip Sheen (Guest)

Mauritius was great - Shanti Maurice was a very quiet resort which was perfect, lovely staff and amazing food. We could not fault the place, it is certainly good if guests do not want noise and children! We were in honeymoon heaven in the villas, they really are worth every penny and did not want to leave.
