Lokanga was built in 1930, during the French colonial era, in the heart of the most historical area of Antananarivo, the royal hill, just a stone's throw from the queen's palace. This is a romantic neighborhood with cobbled streets and stunning town houses dating back to 1800. The views from this elevated position are breathtaking and best enjoyed from the Lokanga terrace.
Lokanga is owned and managed by descendents of the original inhabitants and has been lovingly restored to return the historic town house to its former splendour. There are just six rooms, each designed with a different theme from Malagasy history and in many cases furnished with antiques passed down through the family.
Of the six rooms, five feature double beds and one is a twin, all are en-suite with shower or bath, mini-bar, safe and good Wi-Fi connection.
For those looking to further explore this fascinating city, the hotel can organize great city tours in the 1950's Citroen owned by the family.
The Lokanga Hotel is a great comfortable option with huge character for those spending a night in the capital on their way to or from one of the wildlife hotspots or stunning beaches of the country.

When to go
Any time of year is fine for a visit except from January to March, when heavy rainfall in many areas can make some roads all but impassable, and when there’s a high risk of cyclones in the east and northeast. In general, the best time to travel in most areas is April and October/November. The coolest time to travel anywhere is during the dry season (May to October).
Average maximum temperatures vary from about 30°C in coastal areas (higher in summer) to around 25°C on the hauts plateaux. In Antananarivo and other highland areas, temperatures during winter can drop to 10°C and even lower during the night.
