Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.

Description

Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp is the ultimate ''Out of Africa'' experience, with six 1920s style tents, four family suites and it has also opened a five bedroom private house. Situated in the Maasai Mara, which guarantees an abundance of wildlife.

Recalling an era of luxury and quality, Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp returns to the original spirit and essence of ’’safari’’, reminiscent of a golden era - an era of romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance, in a timelessly unspoiled setting with panoramic views and boundless game. The Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp is situated in a private conservancy, just outside the Maasai Mara game Reserve, bordering the Serengeti and Loliondo reserves where a few Purko Maasai roam.

Guests at Cottar's stay in authentic white canvas tents, which are spacious and luxuriously furnished and incorporate original safari antiques from the 20s, private en-suite dressing rooms and bathrooms (with old-fashioned styled tubs, showers and flushing toilets), the main bedroom and an outdoor veranda. The family tented suites have two en-suite bedrooms with a shared living area.

The private house has five en-suite bedrooms and can accommodate up to ten guests. The house can be taken on an exclusive basis and offers a private home experience in the Maasai Mara. The house has eight efficient staff to look after your needs and a large dinning and living room leading out onto a spacious deck .

As the concession is outside the game parks, guided walking and night drives are also highly recommended. There are also four two-bedroom family tented suites, which each share a living area.

The private house can accommodate up to ten guests in five ensuite bedrooms. The house can be taken on an exclusive basis and offers a private home experience in the Maasai Mara. Childcare

Cottar's 1920 Safari Camp welcomes children but is not suited to very young children and for this reason children must be supervised at all times. Food can be tailored to suit children and earlier meal times can be arranged where necessary. Babysitting can be organized for those that require it.

Facilities

Cottar's Camp provides each luxury tent with a butler, all of whom have been trained to provide guests with discreet, yet attentive service. There is a lovely swimming pool to cool off in during the heat of the day. The camp offers massages and there is also a curio shop, which also has internet access.

Activities

Cottar's is outside the game parks, therefore guided walks and night drives are allowed and highly recommended. By walking, guests can get that much closer to nature, and if an opportunity to track wild game presents itself, the expert trackers will take guests even closer. There is a masseuse based full-time at the camp for complimentary massages, manicures and pedicures if you fancy indulging in a bit of pampering.

I really felt like I had gone back to the golden era when I arrived at Cottars - it's what I imagined safari camps to be like back originally in the 1920's coupled with the luxuries of modern existence.

As they suggest at Cottars - you can return to the original spirit of 'safari' - and it really is the most elegant of camps with large white tents tucked away on a mountain side in an untouched concession near the border of Tanzania & the Serengeti along with the Masaai Mara.

It was such a treat to have my own butler let alone have a complimentary massage arranged within moments of arrival for later on my veranda!

Cottars is also in a great position for the migration as being so close to the border they see the first and last of it all!
