Average time to visit
Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from January through to April. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in early June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite warm. There can be a little rain in the night in October and November. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore the rest of this Indian land of mystery.

Xandari Harbour is a renovated spice warehouse, which has recently opened in Fort Cochin. The rooms and suites pay tribute to the history of the location but the hotel has a wonderfully modern feel. The property has magnificent views across Lake Vembanad.
Xandari Harbour simultaneously celebrates the culture and heritage of Cochin alongside the modern aesthetics of contemporary Indian style.
The old warehouse is converted very cleverly to give all the rooms lots of space and a charming view of either the lake mouth or the garden. The restaurant has a beautiful alfresco dining balcony, which makes you think you are suspended above the river whilst you enjoy your delicious meal.
The layout of the hotel is such that you cannot fail to realise the unique nature of your location. The central courtyard, restaurant, and infinity pool all look out over the water to Willingdon Island, giving the impression of never ending space and calm.
This is a wonderful place to escape the excitement that is Fort Cochin and relax with a cocktail on your deckchair that has been submerged in the pool.
Xandari Harbour has two floors of rooms ranging from spice rooms on the first floor, to Harbour rooms on the second floor. There are five waterfront guest rooms, ten water-view guest rooms and on suite with a balcony overlooking Mattanchery's spice trade. All the rooms have a very contemporary feel to them and luxurious amounts of space.
Spice Harbour is the hotel's restaurant and offers a luxurious infinity pool overlooking the waterfront. With a beautiful setting both indoor and outdoor, it offers multicultural cuisine.
Xandari Harbour has its own tuk tuk available to guests. Enjoy shopping, visiting restaurants or cafes or simply sight seeing around Cochin.

Xandari Harbour is very unique from other properties in Cochin. It's recently been reconstructed from an old warehouse and has very modern interiors. As the name suggests, the property is located on the harbour front and the Harbour Rooms here are well worth choosing as they have incredible views over the sea. It's quite a small, laid back property and activities can be arranged for outside the hotel.

Spice Harbour is a really cool, modern, and original alternative to the traditional colonial accommodation of Fort Cochin. The hotel is beautifully laid out overlooking the waterfront with the infinity pool in prime location. It is located just outside the centre of Fort Cochin, which makes it a wonderful retreat but you will not out of the action as the Mattanchery bazaar is just outside your door.
We visited the hotel during it's soft opening but it already had a lively buzz to it, and the restaurant service was very impressive. If you are looking for something a bit more contemporary and modern this is the perfect retreat for you. The Harbour Suite was particularly impressive with is glass frontage over the water.
Backwaters - Experience Kumarakom
Kumarakom is a village based on the edge of Lake Vembanadu. The village is beautifully laid out over a number of different picturesque islands and is a wonderful example of how people live in the backwaters.
Periyar - Boating at Lake Periyar
Boating in the splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar river adds to the charm of the park. Spot some fascinating wildlife from the boat including animals coming to drink on the lake.
