Nestled amongst banana plantations on a private estate in the quaint heritage village of Moira, The Postcard Moira is a stylish and luxurious boutique hotel, tucked away in sleepy, rural Goa.
Housed in a restored colonial mansion dating back over 200 years, The Postcard Moira is an ultra-lux boutique hotel set amongst the forests and banana plantations of rural northern Goa. Steeped in a rich history, this sleepy corner of India takes you off the beaten track and into a world of mangrove forests, ancient Portuguese churches, colourful homes and vibrant markets. On the outskirts of the beautiful heritage village of Moira on the private Birdsong Estate, the Postcard Hotel Moira offers a total escape from the rigours of daily life.
With the lightest of touches, this stunning ancestral home has been transformed into a chic, luxury hotel. Pillared verandas and airy spaces have been designed to reflect the history and charm of the local area, combining hand-crafted furniture with a high-end finish. Just nine, uniquely designed rooms are spread throughout the hotel. Those on the ground floor feature private courtyards and access to the pool, whilst the rooms and suites on the first-floor have private balconies and views across the tropical gardens. Whitewashed walls, hardwood furniture and antique brass lamps create a pared-back feel, with lavish bathrooms, crisp white linens and the finest amenities ensuring a truly luxurious stay.
Immersive experiences and the local community are at the heart of the Postcard ethos. Nowhere is this felt more keenly than in the dining experiences and delicious cuisine, prepared by the resident chef (and talented Moira housewife, Anju). Local produce, seasonal ingredients and regional delicacies make up the menu at The Postcard Moira, served al fresco to the sound of birdsong in the surrounding plantations. For a truly immersive culinary experience, join Anju in the local market to source the freshest produce, before learning how to prepare traditional Goan cuisine under her watchful eye. Experiencing daily life here in this quiet corner of Goa is eye-opening, and the team at the Postcard can arrange an array of authentic experiences, from cycle tours and surfing lessons to bird watching trips and walking tours. Ayurvedic therapies and holistic wellness treatments are also available, drawing on the ancient practice of Ayurveda, under the watchful eye of a specialist practitioner and skilled wellness therapists.
Reflecting the pared-back aesthetic of the restored mansion, each of the nine rooms at The Postcard Moira are an exercise in the luxury of simplicity. Hardwood furniture and brass hardware contrast with crisp white linens and statement lamps, allowing the surrounding greenery and rural vistas to take centre stage. Hand carved beds, luxury bathrooms and the finest amenities are found throughout, however no two rooms are the same. The first floor Luxury Rooms feature a small terrace with jungle views, whilst the Premier Rooms on the ground floor boast their own private courtyard with access to the pool and gardens. The Moira Duplex Suite offers plenty of space for up to four guests, with a mezzanine level and private outdoor shower. For the ultimate luxury, the Moira Suite occupies over 1,000 square feet, with its own living area and balcony and a hand carved, four poster bed.
With Moira’s roots as a fertile, agricultural village, dining at The Postcard Moira is a true highlight. Freshly prepared using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, the hotel’s chef (a talented local housewife named Anju) creates mouth-watering dishes and regional specialities. Ayurvedic assessments and holistic wellness therapies are available, ranging from relaxing facial treatments to a full body oil massage.
The local village of Moira, famed for its bananas, is a charming place to explore on foot. 16th century fortresses, Portuguese churches and colourful fishing villages are within easy reach of the hotel, as is the famous surf of the Arabian Sea along the Goan coastline. The famous mangroves and backwaters are a paradise for birdwatchers, and foodies will delight in the array of local markets to be explored, followed by a cooking lesson with a local Goan housewife.
