Royal Orchid Metropole
Mysore, Kerala and Karnataka, India
At a Glance
The Royal Orchid Metropole is centrally located in the heart of the city
Good quality rooms and we suggest taking the Heritage Rooms
About 4 hours from Bangalore and a great way to stop on the way to the delights of Northern Kerala
The hotel has a lovely old world feel
Mysore lacks quality hotels, and the Metropole is the best option in the city - the hotel offers good quality rooms, but don't expect it to match other luxury hotels in India

Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from January through to April. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in early June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite warm. There can be a little rain in the night in October and November. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore the rest of this Indian land of mystery.

Description
Built by the Maharaja of Mysore in the early 20th century, the Metropole was originally designed to house visiting dignitaries and their families. The Metropole is well located to explore the major sights of Mysore, and is the best hotel in the city.
Located in the heart of the city and close to the train station, Royal Orchid Metropole is conveniently placed to explore the impressive Mysore Palace which boasts an eclectic combination of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic styles of architecture. The city is also famous for its high quality silk production, so whilst you’re there, you may want to find time for some shopping too. A little further out, Chamundi Hills are well worth a visit for great views of the city and to see the monolithic statue of the bull Nandi - Lord Shiva’s transport, on the way up to the temple at the top.
Royal Orchid Metropole has just 30 comfortable rooms, furnished with period furniture but complete with a range of modern amenities including a minibar, tea/coffee maker, DVD player and satellite TV, WiFi and an electronic safe. There are several dining options including the Tiger Trail which serves exotic delicacies from tiger reserves across India.
Whilst it is difficult to find the highest quality of city hotels in Southern India, Royal Orchid Metropole tries its best to attain the standards expected by the discerning traveller.

Reviews
Daniel Smith (Staff)
We have looked long and hard at all the hotels in Mysore for the top end guest, and have decided the Metropole is the one to go for. Make sure you go for the Heritage Rooms over the Royal Rooms, as they offer the sort of quality our guests expect. The main public areas are a little rough around the edges, but as a base to explore the city it does the job nicely.
