Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away during cold winter months.
Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. It’s the hottest season so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get great value for money if you don’t mind the heat. In western Rajasthan temperatures may soar, particularly in May and June, so we'd suggest avoiding Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert at this time.
The monsoon season usually runs from July to early September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. During this period 90% of the rain Rajasthan occurs, although in reality Rajasthan never receives much rainfall. Lakes and rivers will be higher and there's more colour to the landscape.
Late September to March is the best time to travel to Rajasthan. Expect warm and sunny weather, perfect for exploring and relaxing. Please note that hotels are at their busiest over the Christmas and New Year period. December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also normal to expect some fog in the major cities of northern Rajasthan in December and January.

Give a little back during your trip in India by staying at ME to WE Lodge: Araveli. This incredibly special and immersive tented camp and lodge works alongside WE Charity, an inspirational organisation that supports the livelihoods of many local families.
Located a few hours outside of Udaipur in rural Rajasthan, ME to WE Lodge; Araveli is one of India's most inspiring rural properties and projects. Aimed at truly integrating its guests into the local community through a variety of wonderful projects and activities, ME to WE Araveli is perfect for couples and families who want to give a little back. At the same time it is also incredibly comfortable with beautifully designed tents and cottages.
Working alongside WE Charity, an inspiring global organisation, means that over 90% of the profits from ME to WE Lodge: Araveli go directly into supporting WE Charity and their local projects. WE Charity aims to break down the cycle of poverty through women's development, education, water, health and food and simply by staying here you are supporting projects in India that seriously improve the lives of local people.
We recommend spending a minimum of 3 or 4 nights at ME to WE Lodge: Araveli as part of a wider itinerary through India in order to experience a very authentic side of rural Rajasthan, whilst bonding with local people and learning how they live and work. You can spend your days enjoying sunrise yoga, village walks with local women, learning Mewari and block print painting with local artisans, Hindi lessons, cookery lessons and even taking part in one of the charitable community projects. These vary but examples are helping to build a school or a medical clinic.
In India, WE Charity heavily supports girls in India, as gender disparities are extreme and there are high rates of female illiteracy in this part of India. This means that many of the projects are run by and support women, with a wonderful focus on textiles and arts.
Time back at the lodge and camp is also incredibly special with fantastic air conditioned tents and cottages and the most wonderful dining area with beautiful rural vistas. Enjoy homely Indian food such as butter chicken and samosas. Western food is also available on request. We loved sitting around and sharing stories with other guests.
We feel that this is responsible travel done brilliantly and by staying at ME to WE Lodge: Araveli, guests know their money is being used in the best possible way, whilst integrating and learning in detail about rural communities in Rajasthan. This is ideal for anyone wishing to give a little back during their trip.
A stay here is perfect for couples, honeymooners or families looking for a completely unique and immersive experience. We would recommend it for children at least 8 years and above, but ideally teenagers. It really makes for the most incredible family or multi generational trip, or even doing something completely unique on a honeymoon. Please ask us for more information.
Whilst not luxurious, the tents and cottages at ME to WE Lodge: Aravali are stylish and comfortable with hot showers, fireplaces for cool evenings and air-conditioning for those warmer days.
ME to We Lodge: Aravali is a fantastic option for families and multi-generational families as it really can bring a family together. However, due to the nature of the activities, we wouldn't recommend it to children under 8 years old.
Activities and experiences are at the heart of ME to WE Lodge: Aravali. Choose from nature walks, cookery lessons, learning to block print with local artisans, village walks with local women, sunset yoga, language lessons, Bollywood classes, visiting Ranakpur Jain temple and even getting involved with the local WE Charity projects. These can include project building as well as meeting women involved in their Opportunity Pillar program.
