Killa Bhawan
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India
At a Glance
One of the few properties we recommend actually within the ramparts of the fort
A colourful style reminiscent of a Moroccan riad
Great panoramic views of the Thar Desert and Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Fort is in need of extensive preservation and is on the World Monuments Watchlist
There is no pool and very little outdoor space here, so you stay in this property for sightseeing rather than sun relaxation

Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away during cold winter months.
Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. It’s the hottest season so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get great value for money if you don’t mind the heat. In western Rajasthan temperatures may soar, particularly in May and June, so we'd suggest avoiding Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert at this time.
The monsoon season usually runs from July to September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. During this period 90% of the rain Rajasthan occurs, although in reality Rajasthan never receives much rainfall. Lakes and rivers will be higher and there's more colour to the landscape.
October to March is the best time to travel to Rajasthan. Expect warm and sunny weather, perfect for exploring and relaxing. Please note that hotels are at their busiest over the Christmas and New Year period. December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also normal to expect some fog in the major cities of northern Rajasthan in December and January.

Description
Killa Bhawan is a unique and characterful property located in the ramparts of the fort at Jaisalmer. The property has quite possibly the best views in the town, and is a great boutique offering and an excellent choice for the more adventurous guest.
Killa Bhawan comprises three converted town houses built right into the fort walls offering eight rooms in two adjoining bastions. Killa Bhawan is certainly one of the best places to stay in town. The hotel is run by a co-partnership between a Swiss-Italian who brings the design touches and manages the western expectations and a Jaisalmeri who brings a sense of service and Rajput charm. Manu, the manager, is always eager to please and meet your every need.
The Desert City of Jaisalmer was built of dry stone in 1156 and is known for its magnificent sandstone palaces, ornate Jain temples and the finely wrought manors of the palace. Rooms are decorated in vivid shades of crimson, lime and orange. Its three terraces afford some of the best sunset views in the city.
Killa Bhawan has a simple charm that suits its remote, romantic Arabian Night setting. There is a delightful roof terrace covered with Indian floor cushions offers a spectacular view of the town, fort and desert beyond.
Enjoy a jeep ride around Jaisalmer through abandoned ancient capitals and historical monuments or ride a camel at sunset with dinner, music and fire. But if you want to kick back and unwind at the hotel there are private yoga sessions and massages available.
Accommodation
Killa Bhawan offers guests eight rooms. We recommend the suites as the best choice as they are the only en-suite rooms. The suites are charmingly decorated, have stunning views and access to different terraces
Childcare
Children are welcome to come and stay at Killa Bhawan. However, there are no specific facilities available for them at the hotel.
Facilities
Facilities at the hotel include a wonderful roof terrace dotted with bright Indian cushions for you to relax on and take in the views of the town, fort and desert beyond. The KB Cafe located in downtown Jaisalmer serves delicious vegetarian food made to order. There is a delicious range of Italian inspired dishes.
Activities
Enjoy a jeep ride around Jaisalmer through abandoned ancient capitals and historical monuments or ride a camel at sunset with dinner, music and fire. But if you want to kick back and unwind at the hotel there are private yoga sessions and massages available.
Reviews
Emma Neale (Staff)
What I loved about Killa Bhawan was its commanding position in Jaisalmer Fort giving great views over the city below. The style of the property reminded me of a Moroccan Riad and the size of the property feels so intimate that you feel like you are staying in some ones home.
