Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away during cold winter months.

Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. It’s the hottest season so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get great value for money if you don’t mind the heat. In western Rajasthan temperatures may soar, particularly in May and June, so we'd suggest avoiding Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert at this time.

The monsoon season usually runs from July to September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. During this period 90% of the rain Rajasthan occurs, although in reality Rajasthan never receives much rainfall. Lakes and rivers will be higher and there's more colour to the landscape.

October to March is the best time to travel to Rajasthan. Expect warm and sunny weather, perfect for exploring and relaxing. Please note that hotels are at their busiest over the Christmas and New Year period. December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also normal to expect some fog in the major cities of northern Rajasthan in December and January.

Khem Villas is a ten acre wilderness camp located just a ten-minute drive from the gates of Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan. It is a small family-owned, boutique property and, as such has a very friendly, authentic and welcoming atmosphere.

Khem Villas is a charming colonal-style property and an oasis for wildlife and exploring the great outdoors. Bordering Ranthambore Park, the hotel is just 15-minutes by jeep from the small town Sawai Madhopur and just far enough from the main cluster of camps.

Khem Villas has several accommodation options, all of which are tastefully simple in design but, of course, equipped with all the necessary modern amenities. Guests can stay in rooms in the main building, in traditional style tents or in one of the luxury cottages. The cottages in particular, are to be recommended as they have an amazing setting overlooking the fields and distant hills where it is possible to see lots of wildlife.

The camp also has a small spa that offers the perfect relaxation in between game drives. It has a similarly spectacular outlook to the cottages but is located at a higher point in the camp and has the addition of a plunge pool to enjoy after treatments.

Food at the camp is freshly cooked using home grown organic vegetables, an endeavour overseen by Usha, the hospitable camp host and joint proprietor. It's a great place to experience authentic vegetarian cooking and the charm of warm Indian hospitality.

Khem Villas whole emphasis is on sustainable tourism and to that end not only is the food vegetarian but also the energy sources are eco-friendly and the camp only employs local staff. A most admirable endeavour.

What I really liked about this camp was its laid back, relaxed atmosphere and the hands on approach of the owners in running the property. This camp is a lovely base for exploring Ranthambore and one that I would look forward to returning to relax after game drives.
