Starting from Reykjavík, drive through the fertile farmlands of southern Iceland. Soon the snow-covered peak of Hekla, Iceland’s most famous active volcano (once believed to be the entrance to hell) comes into view. You'll drive up to the edge of the youngest lava field, formed during Hekla's eruption in 2000. If weather permits, drive along the volcano’s ridge, which is 900 meters above sea level. From this height, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding region.

You'll then head into Landmannalaugar, crossing streams and rivers in your specially built superjeep. Landmannalaugar, meaning 'the People's Pools', is a vast area of breathtaking scenery, with colourful rhyolite mountains in various shades of red, green and yellow. The area is well known for its natural geothermal baths, and you'll have time to stop for a soak in a hot spring stream before visiting the Ljotipollur crater. From here, stop at the photogenic Hjalparfoss waterfall, before returning to Reykjavik.
