The scenic 'Champagne route'
The scenic Champagne route winds its way through vast swathes of vineyards, passing small villages and local champagne houses along the way.
Starting in Reims your driver guide will take you out of the city and onto one of the most scenic driving routes of the region, known as the 'Champagne route'. The landscape soon opens up across the rolling verdant hillside as you pass through the neatly lined rows of vines - look out for the headstones along the vineyards, indicating the names of the famous Champagne producers. This gentle drive takes us into some of the smaller villages and wine estates where you have the chance to meet the producers and sample their blends.
The route leads you to Epernay, the wine capital of Champagne, where you can contrast your experience at the smaller wine estates with a visit to one of the largest producers of the region - Mercier. This house is rich with history and will give you an insight to the rise of the champagne industry, while a little train takes you through part of the 18 km long cellars to see them in action. A very welcome tasting will be waiting for you at the end of the visit.
