Today head to Villa Mayurana, close to Koggala on Sri Lanka's South Coast. Learn about the process of growing cinnamon and the history that goes with it. Still a major export, cinnamon has medicinal values as well as being used in everyday cooking.
Your tour will begin with a walking tour through the working cinnamon plantation located close to Villa Ma. It is in the south of Sri Lanka that the world's finest cinnamon is produced.
Heading back to the main house, witness the process of cinnamon peeling and have a go too. Learn from the workers who nimble hands work speedily to peel the cinnamon stick.
Next, walk a short distance to the working factory where the processing and packaging takes place. A local cinnamon planter will talk through the process of making cinnamon. Finally, to end a cinnamon infused lunch will be prepared for you to enjoy.
Please note the cinnamon planter's native language is Sinhalese. At times his English accent might be a little challenging, so do ask him to slow down if necessary. This experience last around 2-hours and starts at 9.30am. Guests can also combine this with an early morning visit to the Tea Virgins Tea Factory which is located close by.
