From mid May through to early August the days are warm and clear but the night time temperatures can drop below freezing. September through to May is generally hot in the day and warm at night, Hwange sees rain from late November to April.
The best time for game viewing is from August to early November, water is scarce, the bush has died back and game congregates around the pumped waterholes. Birdlife is prolific during the rainy season, and although the game has dispersed due to readily available surface water, this is still a great time to experience Hwange as the National Park hums with life.

Elephant's Eye is a luxurious eco-friendly safari lodge, located on a private concession bordering Hwange National Park. With just eight tented chalets, the experience is very private and the game-viewing from here is superb.
Offering the best of both worlds, your safari at Elephant's Eye combines game-viewing on the private concession as well as in Hwange National Park nearby. The private concession is just 13km from the entrance into Hwange, and covers 6000 acres of unspoilt terrain, providing home to more than 100 species of mammal and nearly 400 bird species. With superb guides, you're in good hands to make the most of this wildlife-rich area.
The camp itself has a central mess area, with a tall thatched roof, lounge and dining room, all open-fronted to make the most of views down to the waterhole. Nearby is a natural ozone eco-swimming pool, the ideal spot to cool down during the heat of the day.
There are eight tented chalets here, each raised up on stilts to enjoy views over the waterhole and the wildlife which regularly congregates there. Each chalet is spacious and private, with a king or twin beds, balcony and en-suite bathroom with outdoor shower.
Activities are varied and include day and night game-drives, full day drives into the main park, guided bush walks, visits to a local homestead and visits to the Painted Dog conservation centre. Sundowners are a tradition here, and the perfect way to stop and take stock of the day's adventures before a delicious meal served under the African sky.
Children aged 7 and above are welcome to stay at Elephant's Eye, but please note the camp is in a wild location and is not fenced.
There is wireless internet available in the main mess area of the camp, as well as a bar and dining room. Electricity is provided by solar power but with back-up generators. There is a safe to keep your valuables.
Game-drives are the main focus here, and the guiding with Zimbabwean professional guides is second to none. Choose from morning and afternoon drives on the private concession, or a full day trip into the main Hwange National Park. Other activities include night drives, bird watching, guided bush walks, sundowners and visits to the Painted Dog Conservation Centre.
