Historical village tours from Fazenda Catucaba
Southern Coast, Brazil
The smaller villages which can be found a short drive from the Fazenda are a great way to glean an insight into the authentic heart of rural Brazil. Enjoy tours of Catuçaba, São Luiz do Paraitinga or Cunha with a focus on the region's history.
Catuçaba, inhabited by only around 400 people is the home of most of the Fazenda staff. Visit the charming Chapel of St. Peter and the traditional factory where you can find colourful embroidery created by the 12 women that work here, producing their wares semi-manually.
Discover colonial São Luiz do Paraitinga and stroll along colourful streets, paying a visit to some of the beautiful churches and local craft stores. Known for its musical roots and carnival atmosphere, São Luiz is a delight to explore.
Alternatively, Cunha adopted the art of Japanese ceramics and boasts a number of boutiques and ateliers from which you can find some delightful souvenirs. Although only a half an hour from Catuçaba, at certain times of the year Cunha can only be reached by 4x4 or by horse, making it an exciting expedition for families.
