Candomblé: Religion in Salvador
Candomblé is an amalgamation of African religions and beliefs which were brought to Brazil with the slaves and has now become a prevalent part of the Bahian culture. Candomblé means 'dance in honour of the Gods' and remains a huge part of daily life here.
This half-day tour will allow you to get under the skin of Bahian culture and religion as you explore the Candomblé houses of worship and temples. Focus on the religious and social traditions of this African culture and pay a visit to a local primary school where children are taught to continue on these beliefs and customs, taking classes in the Yorubá language and the study of the spiritual and medicinal properties of sacred plants, as well as the normal academic studies.
