Itinerary
Enjoy a slower pace of life, taking in the scenic countryside of Vietnam and Cambodia from the comfort of your floating hotel. Starting in the buzzing former capital of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), head along the world’s 12th longest river, the mighty Mekong for seven nights on your way to the iconic ruins of Angkor, in Cambodia.
-
Days 1-3: Saigon
Your adventure starts with two nights in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s largest metropolis which is located in the south of the country near the Mekong Delta. Crumbling colonial buildings rub shoulders with glassy skyscrapers in this exciting mish-mash of cultures and history, and the streets throng with people at all hours of the day. With your local guide, take a tour around the city’s highlights, visiting Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office (designed by Gustav Eiffel) and the fascinating War Remnants Museum, containing artefacts from the American – Vietnam War.
Accommodation: Park Hyatt Saigon (2 nights)
-
Days 3-10: Mekong Delta
Your day starts early with a drive down to My Tho where you will board RV Mekong Pandaw, your home for the next 7 nights. As you cruise along the Mekong River towards Phnom Penh, you will be able to regularly disembark to explore local villages and islands, learning to make traditional foods and local handicrafts and enjoying life on the river. Meet fortune- telling monks, release fish from a fish farm, watch a display of Bokator martial arts, take a cyclo ride around the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh and spot Irrawaddy River Dolphins on your exciting 8- day trip from South Vietnam to North Cambodia.
Accommodation: Pandaw Cruises; Mekong River (7 nights)
-
Days 10-13: Siem Reap & Angkor Wat
On your tenth day you will disembark from Pandaw at Kampong Cham village and drive approximately five hours to the lively town of Siem Reap, gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park. Here you will be able to relax and unwind for three blissful nights, exploring the iconic ruins alongside your knowledgeable guide. We suggest spending one day visiting the lesser known temples in the complex, far away from other people which gives you space to fully appreciate the mastery of this lost civilisation. The next day, your guide will be able to take you to the jewel in Angkor’s crown, the magnificent Angkor Wat. Watching the sun rise over the temple is a very popular experience, but your guide will ensure you have the perfect view, away from the crowds. Siem Reap is not just home to the temples, but also boasts vibrant markets, boutiques, bars and restaurants, which will ensure Siem Reap is a marvellous place to finish off the holiday of a lifetime.
