Luxury Mekong Delta Tours

Encompassing a large area of fertile land in southwestern Vietnam, which runs from the edge of Ho Chi Minh City to the Gulf of Thailand, The Mekong Delta is a huge fan of innumerable rivers, canals and streams that slowly make their way to the sea through an area of unrivalled greenery.

Mekong Delta

Originally under Khmer rule, the delta recently became gripped by agriculture; it’s arguably the most fertile part of Southeast Asia, producing the majority of Vietnam’s rice crop. Nowadays the swathes of luminous paddy fields, scenes of languid buffalos, children cycling to school and ladies selling their goods on the dovetail of waterways are a major highlight for many visiting Vietnam. It’s a truly unique and atmospheric scene. At the centre of the delta is the city of Can Tho, home to one of the most impressive and vast floating markets. Further up river you’ll find charming Chau Doc; close to the Cambodian border, it’s possible to continue into Cambodia and to Phnom Penh from here. Nowadays there’s also a variety of luxurious small cruises that begin in nearby Ho Chi Minh City before navigating through the delta and onwards to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
