This full-day tour of Bagan, with a local guide, not only offers a deep look into Burmese history but also immersion into local ways of life. As well as the chance to drink in the sweeping temple-studded views over Bagan’s plains, the trip will visit many of the top temples in detail, including the iconic Ananda Temple, one of Myanmar’s most revered, and Gubyaukgyi Temple, famous for its rich interior mural paintings and exterior carvings.
Just as fascinating are the traditional workshops, where you can witness artisans making lacquerware and woodcrafts, using age-old techniques.
A private riverboat cruise on the Irrawaddy River, travelling toward the pagoda of Kyauk Gu U Min, completes the experience passing by riverside villages, fishermen and colourful local ferries. There is a stop at Sae Lan to witness traditional ways of life and also a visit to Kyauk Gu U Min with its 13th-century temple decorated with exquisite stone carvings and small meditation niches.
