Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The best time of year to visit Panama is typically from December/January to April. The rainy season runs from May to December and tropical downpours can be torrential, so always pack good waterproofs if going at this time of year. Sunshine levels are highest in the winter months from January to April.

Costa Rica’s tropical coastal areas are warm and humid throughout the year. Much of Costa Rica is covered by rainforest so expect rain at any time, but the drier season on the Pacific coast is from December to April and the rainier ‘green’ season is from May to November with the heaviest rainfall being in September and October. Christmas, New Year and Easter are incredibly popular so it is best to book well in advance.

Itinerary

A fabulously varied itinerary combining the highlights of Panama and Costa Rica from buzzing cities, the world famous Canal, lush coffee plantations and majestic volcanoes to wildlife rich jungles, iconic national parks and off the beaten track beaches.

Discover the best that Panama and Costa Rica have to offer on this magical journey that begins in pulsating Panama City with 3 nights at the stunning American Trade Hotel in Old Panama. From here you can visit the famous Canal, dance in the coolest Latino clubs and discover why Panama City has become such a gastronomic capital.

Next discover Panama’s western side, exploring the dramatic volcanic landscapes, coffee estates and pristine cloud forests of the Boquete Highlands, staying 2 nights at the historic Panamonte Inn & Spa. Learn about the most expensive coffee in the world, follow mountain trails looking for the elusive quetzal, or just relax with a sundowner as you take in the splendid views towards Baru Volcano, the country’s highest peak.

From Boquete continue west to Costa Rica and the wildlife rich jungles of the Golfo Dulce. Nestled in the tranquil waters is the exclusive Playa Cativo Eco Lodge, which is accessible only by boat and set in 1,000 acres of private rainforest with both the Piedras Blancas National Park - a former extension of the Corcovado National Park - and its own pristine, sandy beach on its doorstep.

Surrounded by some of the most unspoiled rainforest in the world, Playa Cativo Eco offers an unrivalled opportunity to immerse yourself in nature. Excursions such as kayaking in the Rio Esquinas Mangrove-Ocean, hiking in the Piedras Blancas Nature, guided expeditions to the Nocturnal Rainforest, rainforest and wetland birdwatching tours, snorkeling trips, stand-up paddle boarding adventures, and dolphin and whale watching can be organized during your stay.

From Playa Cativo head by road and boat to Arenas del Mar near the famous Manuel Antonio National Park on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast. Imagine wild, tropical beaches and rocky outcrops backed by lush forest home to monkeys, sloths and iguanas. Guests can hike the private nature trails, which include a hanging bridge and access to two sandy beaches. Tours and activities offered include white water rafting, mangrove kayaking and boat tours, guided rainforest hikes, ocean kayaking, catch and release sport fishing, canopy tours, surfing at the nearby Espadillas Beach and horseback riding.
