Average time to visit

Rwanda can be visited at any time of year. There are two annual rainy seasons: the big rains which last from mid-February to the beginning of June, and the small rains from mid-September to mid-December. Rainfall, especially over the mountains, is heavy during these two periods, particularly from March to May. The long dry season, June to September, is the best time for tracking gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park and for hiking in Nyungwe Forest Reserve.

Embark on a Rwandan adventure and have incredible encounters with two of the world's great ape species; mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. Travel in to the heart of the lesser known Nyungwe Forest in search of the resident chimpanzee community before travelling up to the misty valleys of Volcanoes National Park and watch a gorilla family feed and play amongst the lush green fern.

  1. Fly into Kigali

  2. Days 1-4: Kigali and central Rwanda

Upon arrival into Kigali you will be met and driven down to the vast Nyungwe Forest. Here, you will stay nestled alongside the ancient rainforest within the rolling fields of an expansive working tea plantation. The next three days will offer an exclusive introduction to the vibrant culture of Rwanda along with the fascinating wildlife. Enjoy a variety of curated immersive experiences from wild chimpanzee trekking, to spellbinding nature walks along the jungles canopy bridge, birding experiences and hikes filled with close encounters and awe-inspiring views. When you are not exploring this wildlife haven, learn more about the inner workings of a tea plantation or indulge in a variety of massage treatments in the blissful spa.

Accommodation: One&Only Nyungwe House (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-7: Volcanoes National Park

This morning you will drive from the forest to an airstrip that will fly you back to Kigali. You will be met on arrival and taken on a tour of this up and coming city with the option to visit the Genocide Museum. The main event of any trip to Rwanda is of course the gorilla trek. Wake up early, enjoy a hearty breakfast and then set off on this bucket list adventure. Your trek will take you through a patchwork of agricultural land before entering the National Park, here you will battle dense jungle vegetation in search of your designated gorilla family. A trek to the gorillas is breath-taking in more ways than one, the hike can be exerting but it is completely worth your efforts once you are face to face with a large silver back or a playful baby gorilla. During your three nights stay you will gain a further insight into the local culture of those living on the boarder of the national park with a visit to a local community, and there is the option to trek in search of the elusive golden monkeys which are endemic to this region of the world.

Accommodation: Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge (3 nights)

  4. Fly from Kigali

  • Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcanoes, through the mountainous forest on the slopes of the Virunga range, is a magical experience. Seeing a mountain gorilla in its natural habitat is one of the world's most thrilling wildlife experiences.
