Rwanda can be visited at any time of year. There are two annual rainy seasons: the big rains which last from mid-February to the beginning of June, and the small rains from mid-September to mid-December. Rainfall, especially over the mountains, is heavy during these two periods, particularly from March to May. The long dry season, June to September, is the best time for tracking gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park and for hiking in Nyungwe Forest Reserve.

We entered The One & Only Nyungwe House after a long drive from Kigali and were immediately assailed by the sense of peace and gorgeous decor this hotel claims fame to. Beautiful artefacts, designer fabrics, slate, stone and feature walls all create a wonderful ambience to relax and enjoy for 3 days. Nestled within a tea plantation but surrounded by the Nyungwe National Forest the mornings broke with either mist hanging in the valleys or sunshine sparkling off the tea plantation in every direction. All the rooms face into the rain forest where you can see monkeys if you are lucky and boast comfortable bathrooms, wood-decked terraces and large comfy beds draped in find mosquito nets (which are not needed!) Fabulous food, breakfast served on the terrace in the sunshine overlooking the lovely views, access to both chimp trekking and the famous Canopy Walk, Nyungwe House along with its stylish spa is one of the nicest hotels to relax in for a few days whilst exploring Rwanda. The staff will see you lack for nothing.
