Average time to visit
Rwanda can be visited at any time of year. There are two annual rainy seasons: the big rains which last from mid-February to the beginning of June, and the small rains from mid-September to mid-December. Rainfall, especially over the mountains, is heavy during these two periods, particularly from March to May. The long dry season, June to September, is the best time for tracking gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park and for hiking in Nyungwe Forest Reserve.

Get set for your Rwandan adventure. Arrive in Kigali where you will be greeted and driven to your first night staying at The Retreat. Seen as the place to stay in Kigali it is the perfect stop to refresh after your flight. Take a dip in the hotel pool, stretch out at a yoga session, and indulge in some delicious food at the onsite famed Kigali restaurant, a very popular restaurant in the city. The perfect ‘retreat’ before you are taken by private transfer to Akagera National Park to start your first leg of this exciting trip.

In Akagera you will be staying three nights at the tranquil Magashi tented camp nestled on the shores of Lake Rwanyakazinga. A slice of safari luxury based in 10,000 hectares of national park, which is arguably one of the most scenic parks in East Africa, home to a variety of different habitats from rolling open plains, lakes, swamps, and grassy low mountains. At night you can relax in luxurious tented accommodation, enjoying meals under the starry night sky listening to the stories of the land during a traditional Kugisha supper around a roaring fire with fellow camp guests.
By day you can watch elephants submerge in the lake’s silvery blue waters and head out on games drives across miles of open savannah tracking the white and black rhinos, lions, buffalo and giraffes roaming the vast savannah. During your time here you can also head to the waterways for an exhilarating boat safari and try your hand at catch-and-release fishing. After your final night jump in a helicopter and head to the lush vegetation of the Volcanoes National Park, ready for a whole other wildlife experience.

Lose yourself in the dizzying heights of this epic scenery of the vast Nyungwe Forest, as you make your way to land at the One&Only Nyungwe House. This is a stunning resort nestled amongst the ancient rainforest blanketed by the rolling fields and greenery from its very own working tea plantation, which allows you to immerse in the support and sustainability offered to the local community. Staying in one of the striking wooden villa clusters the rooms and suites are a secluded haven amongst nature, looking out into the untamed National Park.
The next three days will offer an exclusive introduction to the vibrant culture of Rwanda along with the fascinating wildlife.
