Botswana and Southern Mozambique share a moderate climate with three distinct seasons: from December to March is the rainy season, with warm temperatures and thunderstorms. April to July is dry, with sunny days and cool nights - in June and July the nights can be very cold in Botswana. From August through to October the weather heats up, with October's temperatures sometimes approaching 40°C. It's worth noting that Southern Mozambique has occasional cyclones in February.
This romantic itinerary offers a thrilling safari through one of Africa’s wildest regions, taking in two areas of the beautifully varied Okavango Delta where you will stay at some of our most charming properties. Your holiday ends as you head to an idyllic spot in southern Mozambique where you will be surrounded by azure blue waters and sandy beaches for some rest and relaxation.
Your romantic holiday begins as you take a light aircraft flight from Maun over the stunningly beautiful Okavango Delta where you will spend the next three nights in a private concession. The Delta is well known to offer a wide variety of habitats, from open floodplains, to waterways and woodlands, making it a wonderful place to explore. Spend your days exploring this pristine wilderness on game drives and walking safaris where you could find animals such as buffalo, red lechwe, giraffe, elephant, and even some predators like lion, leopard, spotted hyena and even wild dog. In the evenings, dine under the stars and enjoy stargazing in the widest of African skies.
Today you will take to the skies again to fly by light aircraft to stay in a completely different concession of the Okavango Delta. You will spend another three nights in the Delta in a more water-based lodge, giving you the opportunity to experience how different each concession can be. Your day-to-day focus remains on game viewing, but with opportunities like traditional mokoro trips and boat excursions you will be able to see a completely different side to the Delta, observe animals from a completely different view point, and appreciate how different the habitats can be. Aside from water-based activities, mornings and afternoons could still be spent on a game vehicle where you can appreciate how vast and untouched this area is.
Your holiday continues as you leave the Okavango Delta and Botswana and head to Johannesburg where you will spend one night before your morning flight to Mozambique. Take time to relax in the hotel facilities and get well rested after your early morning starts in Botswana.
After your morning transfer to the airport your journey continues across to southern Mozambique. You will land in Vilanculos where a helicopter transfer will be waiting to take you across to your beautiful island resort where you will spend the next five nights. Wake up to beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue Indian Ocean views every morning. Spend your days completely at your leisure either snorkelling, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, or simply relaxing on the beach. Dine in a different spot every night, and we have also included a sunset dhow cruise and cocktail to round off one of your sun filled days to offer the perfect romantic end to a wonderful day. The coast is also renowned for a sea that is rich in coral and fish - superb for both scuba diving and big game fishing, which both come at an extra cost.
The Okavango Delta is a vast patchwork of deep-water channels, shallow lagoons and date palm islands, fringed with the ubiquitous papyrus reeds. A doors-off scenic helicopter flight is an exhilarating way to take in these sights and a real treat, too!
Head off on horseback around Benguerra Island and walk along deserted beaches. Once per day.
Botswana's northern safari areas are full of water channels just waiting to be explored. Larger boats can be used to explore the wider channels but for the aficionado, mokoro trips into the smaller channels are a real treat. Always subject to waterlevels
Spend a day on a private sand bank island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Eat delicious seafood under a shady canopy with no one in sight! For honeymooners this is an ultimate experience and a great photo opportunity! 1 per stay.
