For more than a century, Belmond Reid's Palace (formerly by Orient Express) has been the ultimate place to stretch out in the sun and relax. Reid’s gardeners ensure that the garden is a riot of color throughout the year. Featuring trees from all over the world, including Brazil, China, North and South America, Australia, Africa, Korea and Japan alongside flowering shrubs, including hibiscus, bougainvillea, mimosa, wisteria and rhododendron, and a rich variety of the brilliant flowers that have earned Madeira its title as the ‘Garden of the Atlantic’.
The gardens are synonymous with Reid's Palace and in bygone days a walk in the garden would bring you upon Sir Winston Churchill reflecting on his memoirs, or Sir George Bernard Shaw mastering the finer points of the tango on the lawns.

Reid's Palace Hotel has 163 rooms in total (128 rooms and 35 suites), each one is individually decorated with luxurious furnishings with an emphasis on traditional style with modern comforts. The en-suite bathrooms are lavishly furnished with marble fittings and each room has a balcony or patio with views of the sea or garden.
Children of all ages are warmly welcomed at Reid's Palace. There are plenty of facilities for children to enjoy during their stay. Fun@Reid's for children has a children's pool, an extended outdoor playground and wendy house. Fun@Reid's for teens provides a sound proof room with Wii consoles, playstations and apple macs with internet access. Both the Villa Cipriani Restaurant and the Pool Restaurant feature a children's menu, as well as Room Service. There is also a babysitting service available should you require it.
Reid's Palace has a superb selection of restaurants and bars to wine and dine at. Whether you want to indulge in some french cuisine in the elegant Les Faunes restaurant, have a light lunch at the Pool Terrace or afternoon tea at the Tea Terrace, you will be well looked after and fed during your stay.

Belmond Reid's Palace is perched majestically on the cliff top above Funchal Bay on the south coast of Madeira.
When to go
Madeira has a Mediterranean climate. May to September sees the least rainfall. January and February can sometimes feel chilly, and you can expect to be rained on, but the bungalows and public rooms are heated making this a year round destination.
