There are 60 rooms and suites with many panoramic windows offering spectacular views of the river, the vineyards or the surrounding countryside. All rooms and suites have luxurious bathrooms, some with spacious showers and some with bathtubs and are all well equipped with mini-bar, air conditioning, telephone, LCD TV and WiFi.

Families with children 6 years old and over are very welcome to come and stay at Six Senses Douro Valley. There is a variety of activities designed to keep children entertained such as treasure hunts, family kayaking, art and nature workshops, a kids alchemy bar and family yoga.

The Douro Valley is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world and therefore the wine list in the restaurants is quite exceptional. Vale de Abraão is casual, stylish and contemporary serving Mediterranean fusion cuisine on a beautiful terrace overlooking the vineyards. The Dining Room provides fresh, regional dishes with a relaxed atmosphere, while Terroir offers vegetarian fare, making the most of the hotel's organic garden. The Quinta Bar and Lounge boasts magnificent views of the sunset over the Douro River and is the perfect place to relax with tapas and a glass of wine.

The hotel has a fantastic gym and a spa with therapeutic and holistic therapies available. Taking a boat trip along the banks of the Douro on a beautiful sailing boat or on a luxurious vintage boat with private lunch will reveal the magnificence of the landscape. Train trips along the river, helicopter trips through the region and bicycle rental are a great way to explore the region. Horse riding, hiking, canoeing, rafting and golf are also facilitated in the area.

Set amid the breathtaking beauty of the Douro Valley, the Six Senses is a polished jewel of a property with all the bells and whistles. Starting with its location overlooking the river, six different dining options, rooms with forever views, a sybaritic spa to satisfy even the most self-indulgent, and a dedication to each guest's wellbeing, this is one of our favorite resorts in Europe.
There's no question that the property, dcor and facilities are superb, but for me, it's the experiences here that make it truly special. Private river cruises with wine tastings on the Douro, seeing 25,000 year old cave art, meandering through monasteries from the 12th century, the monuments and azulejo tiled buildings of nearby Lamego, kayaking, canyoning and rafting, "winemaker for a day" and learning that Port can be delicious make this a really special place I wholeheartedly recommend.

Arriving after a painless hour and a quarter journey on the new motorway through stunning scenery we fell in love with the Ochre hued Six Senses Douro Valley bathed in the golden light of a wonderful sunset. The setting, along with elegant rooms with views to the surrounding vineyards or Douro River, created an instant ambience of peace and tranquillity. Whether you dine in The Dining Room, the Terrace or The Chef's Table in the open kitchen, The Vale de Abraao Restaurant offers three different and very distinct areas to savour the seasonal menus of regional dishes and local wines. We loved the tapas and wines in The Wine Library & Terrace and the cocktails each night at The Quinta Bar and Lounge overlooking the sleepy Douro River bathed in the fiery reds and oranges of the incredible sunsets. A myriad of activities; super outdoor pool with a poolside restaurant and Terroir the vegetarian garden to table restaurant at night; a truly incredible Spa with visionary treatments as well as well loved favourites, this beautiful hotel has something for everyone. Arrive and follow the sleepy mood of the Duoro River and explore the area sampling local delicacies and port of course alongside the huge choice of wines this region has to offer. Everything moves at a slow pace and this is somewhere to really unwind and shut the outside world off for a few days.

The Six Senses Douro Valley is a beautiful gothic castle poised on the edge of the dramatic Douro Valley landscape. Perfect for relaxing, the hotel lies in harmonious natural surroundings covered in vineyards and allows for a real break. Being in the wine region of Porto helps too and you can book a variety of Quinta tours to fill your days or sail down the river at leisure.
