Description

Soneva are the pioneers of ’intelligent luxury’ in the Maldives; nowhere else evokes the Robinson Crusoe style better than this exemplary resort. The resort is set on the privately owned tropical island of Kunfunadhoo in Baa Atoll. It can be reached by a scenic 30-minute sea plane flight from Male.

Apart from the crystal clear waters, white beaches and tropical climate, the island’s unusually rich vegetation offers a unique natural experience. The very spacious and stylish villas are built from wood and palm thatch, beautifully furnished with natural materials yet containing every conceivable luxury and they are nestled on the palm-fringed beaches that lead to the azure lagoon contained within a coral reef.

The service is faultless and the food divine, although it is the sense of privacy that comes from having only 65 villas on an island a mile long that continues to make Soneva Fushi one of our favorites.

Central to the property is the Spa experience. The Soneva Fushi Spa has a large reflecting pond and waterfalls which calmly set the tone for soul therapy. Guests may choose from a refreshing menu of holistic and traditional treatments conducted by highly skilled therapists using all natural products. Spa programs are complimented by a complete gym, beach side treatment villas and a Yoga Pavilion for wellness therapies such as yoga and Tai Chi.

Not content to rest on its laurels, Soneva Fushi has introduced innovations such as an organic tree top restaurant, private spa suites, an open air cinema and a champagne bar to keep their unique island concept feeling fresh.

Childcare

Soneva Fushi was designed as a special place for all ages, and as such it was only a matter of time before one of the best kids clubs in the Maldives opened it's brightly colored doors for business. The Den is a base for kids of all ages, with two swimming pools, a pirate ship, a Mocktail bar, a whole room full of Lego, a cinema, a dress up area; there is even a music room filled with instruments for little people to jam on!

Of course, the Den is a base, but Soneva Fushi has a lot to discover beyond the confines of the club, and so there are a host of activities that can be enjoyed as a family such as a family dolphin cruise, snorkeling with a marine biologist, mother and daughter spa sessions, and a magical bedtime star gazing session at the observatory with the resident astronomer. This really is a kids club operating at another level!

Facilities

The facilities here seem endless Soneva Fushi has the first open-air cinema in Maldives! In the organic gardens they have built a an observatory which houses a striking Meade RCX400 telescope. There are two libraries offering a vast selection of easy reading and reference books, DVD, VCD, and CD for rental. A fully equipped fitness center, table tennis, badminton, tennis, beach volleyball and bicycles are also on offer.

Mihiree mitha is the resort's main restaurant where you can enjoy delicious fresh breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Dishes range from fresh sushi to organic salads to wood fire pizzas and grilled fish.

You could enjoy some beach side dining of ceviche, sashimi and sushi. The Down To Earth restaurant has a Mediterranean influence with dishes made to share. Tailor made dining can also be arranged where you can choose you own menu and location to create a memorable experience.

Location & Directions

Baa Atoll, Maldives

Soneva Fushi is set on the privately owned, tropical island of Kunfunadhoo in Baa Atoll in the Maldives.

When to go

The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon from December to March, and the wet southwestern monsoon from May to November, with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and heat. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C.

February to April is the hottest period and resorts are almost all operating at capacity during this period. Mid-December to early January comes at even more of a premium due to Christmas and New Year and prices are even higher. Easter and the Italian vacation week in August also attract peak prices at most resorts.

Storms are more likely from May to November, though it’s still warm, skies can be cloudy and the humidity is higher. This is the low season, with fewer people and lower prices, with the exception of August.

Diving is good year-round, although a basic rule is that life on the reef is more varied and visibility better on the western side of any atoll from May to November and from the eastern side of any atoll December to April.

The surfing season runs from March to October, which is when resorts are cheapest.
