In the western, central and eastern Bhutan you will mostly experience cold European-like weather. Winter lasts here from November to March. The Monsoon occurs between June and August when the temperature is normally between 8° and 21°C. October and November are arguably the best months, when the monsoon has passed and the skies are clear. The spring months of March, April and May are best for the flora, but it can be stormy as the monsoon builds up for July-September.

Description

Overlooking a farm, set just outside the village of Gangtey and the edge of Black Mountain National Park, Dewachen Hotel, is one of our preferred guesthouses in Bhutan with just 28 cosy rooms and a striking location overlooking the valley.

Dewachen is a charming little property enjoying a fantastic location close to Gangtey and is well located to explore Phobjikha, a glacial valley and protected nature area, home to endangered Black Neck Cranes. The cranes visit from the Tibetan Plateau during the winter months and often arrive in early October and are in the valley until the end of March.

Dewachen Hotel is simple, but its traditional style makes it one of the better guesthouses in Bhutan. The rooms are full of Bhutanese charm and do not have a wide range of facilities but are comfortable and all en-suite. Wood burning stoves provide plenty of warmth during the winter months when it can be cold.

There's a small gift shop, laundry services can be arranged and massages can be organized with the hotel, but there's not a spa. The gardens are pleasant and enjoy good views and there is also a hot stone bath for guests to unwind in.

Electricity supply to the remote Phobjikha valley is restricted so the hotel has its own generator to provide an ongoing supply.

Dewachen's striking setting and traditional charm make this a compelling guest house.

Dewachen is a charming, great value Bhutanese-run country hotel with great views and traditional painted architecture. The 16 bedrooms are cosy owing to the embroidered bed covers, thick mattresses & duvets, as well as hot water bags and wood burners. There is also lots of hot water for ensuite showers.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. It is a no frills property with all the genuine charm of a Bhutanese hotel. Stoves in the rooms to keep you warm at night and beautiful painted wooden Windows and doors.

Dewachen is a charming Bhutanese mountain lodge overlooking the immensely beautiful Phobjikha Valley, home to black-neck cranes and some excellent day walks. Don't expect all the bells and whistles - Dewachen is all about simplicity and feeling like you are in Bhutan, with its lovely local architecture, local wood-burning stoves and lovely home cooked food. It goes without saying that there are no TVs or WiFi so bring a good book to read in the evenings.
