It is not just Sri Lanka's Hill Country that is home to tea plantations; not far from Koggala Lake is the South Coast's very own tea plantation. See the ladies plucking tea leaves and visit the tea factory and learn about Sri Lanka's most famous export.
With over 200,000 hectares of tea plantations in Sri Lanka, you won't have to travel far to spot these emerald green hills. Although the majority of Sri Lanka's tea is grown in the Hill Country, during your stay along the south coast, you may also visit a tea plantation and have a factory visit, learning about the way in which tea is grown and produced.
You will be collected from your hotel and driven the short distance to this lowland tea plantation. Please note, this experience can be done early in the morning or later in the day, however you are more likely to see workers picking tea in the mornings when its cool.
