Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

With scorching summers, cold winters, temperate springs and pleasant autumns, Beijing and its surrounding area experiences four distinct seasons. During the summer months, the mercury can reach over 40°C, bringing monsoon rains and extreme humidity, despite being the peak season for travel. From November through to March, northern winds whip through the city, seeing temperatures tumble to as low as -20°C in January, the coldest month. Springtime is windy yet pleasant, although sandstorms from Mongolia sweep through at this time of year making outdoor sightseeing uncomfortable. The Autumn months are the perfect time to travel, with fewer tourists and the most clement weather for exploring the city.

Description

Situated in the quaint Gubei Water Town, Wuzenhui Boutique Hotel is a traditionally designed boutique hotel set on the water’s edge, close to the Simatai section of the Great Wall of China.

Designed to echo the style of the old courtyard houses of the Qing Dynasty, the Wuzhenhui Boutique Hotel is one of the best places to stay in Gubei Water Town. Decorated in the traditional Chinese style, with parquet flooring throughout the cosy guestrooms, it is the perfect base to explore the low-slung Hutongs, quartzite streets and canals of Gubei. Equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi in the public areas and an on-site restaurant serving up traditional fare, this small 40 room boutique hotel is both central and comfortable.

The real draw of Gubei Water Town is its proximity to the stunningly preserved Simatai section of the Great Wall of China, one of the most primitive and unspoilt parts of this magnificent edifice. Snaking across the undulating hills, this particular section of the wall can be quite perilous, with crumbling watch towers and steep arches punctuating the wall itself. There is a particularly scenic cable car ride from the base of the wall up to one of the watch towers which is a spectacular experience after nightfall, when the wall is illuminated by thousands of lanterns. Elsewhere in Gubai, you can discover the  Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir or take a boat ride along the canals that bisect the town.
